Impulse Buying

Postby Juhnaid » 08 Mar 2008, 15:29

So.. I have this problem of going "Oh look, I have a bunch of money, I'm going to spend it on crap."

Today I was just out and about the town, looked at my monies and went "...Well then."

Cutting a long story short, I impulse brought a PS3, For pretty much no reason, as well as other things, about £400 in total.. and I dont even need one.

As a curiosity, Anything any of you lot ever brought something really stupid, or really expensive for no reason? I'm sure theres some good stories out there!

Mostly Impulse Eh?

I was hoping for some epic story of how something rare caught your eye in some strange little shop hidden in a corner and you just had to buy it even though you where broke..

Funnily enough, thats how I got Jump! Ultimate Stars and Pokemon Diamond for my DS -waaay- before they where released over here.

I would have saved my money and bought something more worthwhile than a PS3. Like a kick to the groin or something. At least you'll get your money's worth.

I bought a Master Sword replica for $75 at an anime convention, when I had only $100 to last me the whole weekend....

....anyone want it? (not for free)

i buy so much crap i don't need... especially on ebay or amazon with the buy it now, or one click to purchase... and it seems like everything i ever bought i break... especially computers for example i bought a powerbook my freshman year, and then i proceeded to spill ice tea on it, and i thought i fried the logic board because the screen went crazy, so then i bought a macbook and last week it was in my book bag with a couple books when it fell off my bed and when i opened it the lcd screen was broken on the right side.... and they won't replace it becuase its accidental damage...

so then i come home this week, and find out that my old powerbook is now working fine... and then i paid 185 USD to buy a new lcd and fix my computer myself... which will hopefully work, because now i can only use half the computer screen... I swear i have the worst luck with computers!

Lots and lots of clothes. That's pretty much it. I'm much better now.

Also food. I tend to buy food I really can't afford on a university student's budget but I can't help it that sometimes I just really want some smoked salmon or an epoisse. I am not one of those people who can live on Ichiban and Kraft Dinner.

Once, I impulse bought a small jar of cream of tartar.

...

I had high hopes for meringues. THEY WERE NOT MEANT TO BE.

I don't usually make impulse buys, since I fall into the third group of this little dandy. I don't even need another person. I'm a one-two-man nerd shopping team.

Well... I bought about 80% of my RPG books on impulse.
(Oh, all Agone books for just 20 bucks... I already have them, but I've always wanted a spare set!)
Also all my kitchen apps (toaster, sandwich toaster, rice cooker, noodle cooker).
And Limited Edition DVDs.
(There's a Collector's Edition of Serenity? I only have that movie twice, and third time's a charm!)

I don't really impulse buy, because the voice in my head that goes "Dude, that's fucking stupid" tends to overpower everything else.

The only time in recent memory what I feel that I bought something expensive on a whim was when I got my GameCube back in the day.

i impulse buy shoes... specifically vans slipons and flip flops... i currently have 3 different pairs of vans slipons and at least 10 pairs of flip flops... and yes i'm that crazy person who you see outside in the middle of winter, with 6 inches of snow on the ground wearing flip flops... and yes my feet are cold, and i usually wear them because i have very few pairs of socks and hate doing laundry

Funny thing about that; I traded my GC in for funds towards my Wii. Backwards compatibility for the win.
