Oh yeah....

And SCRAPPED PRINCESS.

(I don't know if I got my point across...As a note, don't read the manga for it, the anime is a gazillion times better.)

I haven't watched much anime for a while. I do love the style though. The eyes have always been such a hook for me and some of the different styles is visually stunning to look at. The humor is sometimes more adult as well, which is nice to see since the only animated shows on this side that take a risk are either Family Guy or the Simpsons, and those get rather stale after a while.

But enough about me, lets learn more about me.

My favorite animes that I've watched so far are the following, name have been altered to save the innocent of ridicule.

Hellsing - (The OVA's only.) It has zombies and Seras

Keroro Gunsu - Three two one fire! I haven't watched any episodes in a long time though...

Full Metal Alchemist - We shouldn't have played florist brother! Honestly though I've never seen it's end yet. I'm three episodes away

Black Lagoon - Ghee hee, girly with guns

Gah! And Fooly Cooly! I love it's layers...like an onion

Yeah dude. They're huge. But the episodes are fantastic, neh?
They're a little hard to follow at the start, but it gets way better, way fast.

I'd check out Trinity Blood if you can find it because of it's awesomeness. I also agree with FMA, Elfen, and Cowboy.

If you want 24 episodes of tits, ass, and guns with NO plot until the last 6 episodes, check out Burst Angel. That series was so painful to sit through but I couldn't leave it unfinished.

Big O is quite good. It also completes the Steven Jay Blum trinity with Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. Come to think of it, it is more like the Steven Jay Blum monopoly on amazing.

Texhnolyze is really starting to get boring.. I'm on episode 7.

Haibane-renmei was great.
I love animes with huge character development, and the anime didn't disappoint.

Yu-Gi-Oh the abridged series.
Seriously. A hilarious parody of Yu-Gi-Oh, every episode redubbed and shortened to 6 minutes. I haven't laughed so hard since I found LRR.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is old but epic.
Death Note is awesome so I've heard, two chicks I know give it two thumbs way up. Apparently L is truly awesome. :P I still need to get that off them.

For your consideration:

- Pretty much anything Hayao Miyazaki has touched is golden.
- Neon Genesis Evangelion still rocks, 13 years later. Only watch the movies if you've seen the series. Beware: more of a mind job than a David Lynch marathon.
- Akira: The beginning and end of long-form sci-fi anime.
- FLCL: The little cult series that could.
- The works of Makoto Shinkai: the front-runner in the anime-as-art sweepstakes.
- Lucky Star: The anime Seinfeld. You can't get much more slice-of-life than this.
- Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi: Long on pop culture satire and references, short on plot development. Still very entertaining. You would never believe that these are also the folks responsible for Eva.
- Cowboy Bebop: 'Nuff said.
- Ghost in the Shell: If only all existential crises could be this entertaining.
- Ninja Scroll: Grade-A ass-kickery from top to bottom. Splatter fans go here.

Hunter X Hunter (though the manga is better)
Trigun
Also, of course, anything by Miyazaki.

Made it 70% through the Death Note manga as it came out, got utterly confused, and gave it up. Too good.

I watched the Gundam F91 movie, it was alright.
It's no Char's Counterattack by any means, but it was good.
I'm trying to find the latest DVD release of Endless Waltz.
And I ordered the box set of The 08th MS Team of Half.com.

I'm gonna recommend Cromartie High School, which is the only anime I know of that features Freddy Mercury as a character. He rides a horse.

I'll also vouch for Cowboy Be-Bop, and put Outlaw Star up if you liked Cowboy Be-bop.

I am a little obsessed with One Piece. The story moves slow, they are the master of the cock tease in terms of actually starting a fight, the filler sections are sheer balls...

...but its about super powered pirates and navy decking it out, with a first mate that uses 3 swords at the same time and some truly great music and voice acting.

Don't get the english versions.

Oh no.

Nuh ah.

Kaizoku fansubs have over 200 episodes now.
As a History student, the history degree I'll be getting will get me a decent job, right? Guys? Where you going?

Yes, Haibane Renmei is fantastic.

Two of the best anime ever have not been mentioned yet...

Juuni Kokki (The Twelve Kingdoms)
Monster

Juuni Kokki creates this incredible fantasy world with really amazing mythology and society. Interesting characters and a very different way of looking at life and finding your place.

Monster is about a doctor trying to catch a serial killer while the police after after him for the crimes. Set in Germany just after the wall came down. Absolutly amazing.

I have a fairly small handful of titles that I really think are great.

I'll start with just about anything by Hayao Miyazaki. Tonari No Totoro, Nausicaa, Laputa, Porco Rosso, and Mononoke Hime are all fantastic. Also, if you can find it, Future Boy Conan is an astounding TV series worth the effort of tracking down.

I've always had a soft spot for Ninja Scroll, despite it having some genuinely vile scenes in it.

Akira will always impress me, especially the newly restored version.

FLCL I really like, although I still don't undertand a lot of the symbolism (which is really goddamn important, so I guess I just fail) The animation is top-notch and the soundtrack is great, plus a lot of truly weird shit happens.

Speaking of wierd shit, Dead Leaves is worth a look if you just want a complete audiovisual mindfuck travelling at 300mph into your face.

Wings of Honneamise
is another timeless classic that will never grow old to me. It's the story of an alternate-universe space race charged with convincing drama and fantastic design.

There are some festival shorts worth finding: Manie-Manie (Neo-Tokyo in the US), Katsuhiro Otomo's Memories, as well as Robot Carnival. All are collections of award-winning short films, all of which are excellent. (Except cloud, that one was fucking boring)

I recently re-watched Project A-Ko which I realize I still like just because it's one of those silly self-spoofing late eighties anime movies that manages to punk everything else of the time as well.

First series Bubblegum Crisis is pretty awesome, even with the faint hint of cheese. It's a four-girl armored suit squad that beats the shit out of rogue androids.

An if you're not one of those purists, you might enjoy the Korean animated movie Aachi & Sspak which is in a similar vein to Dead Leaves and FLCL.

I'm sure there are more that I'm missing, maybe I'll add them later. Also:

That's like saying paintings are boring because you can just draw anything.
Yeah, it's not "real", but it still needs to be conceptualized, designed, choreographed, animated, foleyed and scored, so how is that any less impressive?
