Old games you just can't get away from

Postby Smeghead » 15 May 2008, 04:52

There might already be a thread like this somewhere here, if so; let this thread fall into the abyss of forgotten forum threads.

Anyway, I should also clerafy that when i say "old" games I'de prefere a game older then 4 years, or else so many are gonna write WoW.

3 old games that I tend to return to and replay: Secret of Mana (on teh actuall Snes, no emulators involved there!) and Chrono Trigger (sadly on emulator) and finally Transport Tycoon Deluxe (sadly I've lost the cd with the game, it's a major loss to me. That game is just to damn addictive and all the remakes and new games in the same area just can't even get close to the charm of the original game)

I play Final Fantasy (1) in one iteration or another usually a couple times a year. I can beat it from beginning to end in about 15 hours. I play Final Fantasy VI in one iteration or another at least once a year.

Other games I return to mostly consist of other SNES RPGs. Chrono Trigger, EarthBound, FFIV & V, Secret of Mana and even more so, Seiken Densetsu 3. (God that game deserved a North American release)

Right now I'm replaying EarthBound as Im eagerly awaiting the Mother 3 fan translation, which I hope will be completed at some point this year.

Fallout 2, Diablo II, and Starcraft. Those never let me down if I don't have any good new games to play.

Super Mario 64
The Lost Vikings
Commander Keen IV and V
Crystal Caves

Mostly, I will grab one game I haven't played in a while and sink my teeth into it and play it hardcore for a while, then drop it again. This is why I seldom sell my games back.

Starflight. Master of Orion. And Deus Ex. These three games keep popping back onto my hard drive. Again, and again. I almost said CivII, but MoO usually fulfills the 'god-game' impulse.

For the longest stretch, I recently discovered my old Covert Action 5-1/4" floppies, and HAD to go dig up an abandonware version to play through DOSbox; I'm currently only playing on easy but with the intent of snaring ALL the various MasterMinds out there.

Oh noes. You had to mention Pokemon. After being off the juice for years, I bought Pokemon Pearl. The story sucks balls, but I do like the battles and leveling and being A GOD at battling. That's right. I said it.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Baldur's Gate.

I'm playing through Tactics again, my main guy's a turret; 2 swords plus Bonecrusher, just let somebody tap him and he rips their face off. It's kinda ruining my revision, if I'm being fair. I'm re-creating and improving the team I had last time.

Baldur's Gate lasso'd my heart with barbed wire and has refused to let go... I just wish my computer would run it! However, what made it for me was playing a LAN with my friend, of Baldur's Gate 1, the expansion, to 2 and the second expansion. Good ol' Karkon (hence my forum name) the human meatshield fighter, and Daveus, the gnome cleric/thief. By the time of the closing chapters of the last expansion the pair of them just steamrolled anyone silly enough to own anything sparkly around them. :)
As a History student, the history degree I'll be getting will get me a decent job, right? Guys? Where you going?

Vegas Dream for the NES

SOOOOOO fun, plus it had other plot lines running through it.
