The Hulk [probably spoilers]

Postby -Geoff- » 15 Jun 2008, 20:04

So, was it not incredibly awesome? I really think Marvel is hitting their stride with this whole movie business. There was a tiny bit of horribly horrible cheesy mush, but I thought it was pretty easily forgotten amidst all the rest. police car punching gloves? yes

Also, the quick origin montage to jump right into the good stuff was an awesome idea. Not sure if I've seen that somewhere before or not, but still pretty sweet.

Haven't seen it yet, but I'm glad it doesn't suck. I'll probably see it next weekend.

I honestly believe this movie was as good as Iron Man

Marvel is 2/2 this year and it gives me great hope for Thor, Cap and The Avengers.

So how could the first "The Hulk" suck so much, and this one be good? *brain implode*

It's no Iron Man, but I really, really enjoyed this one.
Well played, Marvel Studios. Well played.

Its really hard to fault the really mushy bits as that is a huge part of who the hulk is. The fact that she can keep in somewhat in line when he goes green is a big part of the story. One of the few occasions i will actually let that kind of "love story" get by in a super hero movie.

Mainly refering the parts when he was not Hulk. Like laying in bed alone while staring at the ceiling and their clutching hearts.

Entertaining, but I think I like Ang Lee's hulk just a bit more. If just for the surprisingly good acting by Nick Nolte.

It was great, but I think they should have made the hulk a bigger character. I mean he only had 2 lines in the whole movie, and they just showed the hulk as a stronger and dumber Banner, which I don't think does the character justice. I hope they give the hulk more development in the next movie.

ok, this movie has been confusing me.. i mean didn't they just make a Hulk movie? are they making a sequel or just doing the "what other Hulk movie? oh that... yeah it doesn't really exist"?

The general opinion on the 2003 Hulk movie is that it sucked horribly, so they're ignoring that and "re-booting" the franchise with this movie, which will fit in the same continuity as Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and the Hulk will re-appear with them in the 2011 Avengers movie.

So yeah, essentially, "What other Hulk movie?"
Also, this one kicks ass, and they're hoping to do an actual sequel to it between now and the Avengers movie so that the Hulk can switch to the good guy side and join the Avengers. If not though, they're saying that he'll end up being a bad guy for (at least a part of) that movie.

I really wouldn't categorize the hulk as a bad guy. not in this film, nor in future incarnations. his allignment is pretty much chaotic-neutral, with leanings to the good when he can get himself under control.

he's quite a sympathetic character really, and in both hulk movies so far the real antagonist (or bad-guy, if you will) is general Ross.

I agree Matt, I was just trying to remember what I read somewhere else, which stated that “If Hulk is a failure, then he looks up and smirks and that’s eventually the Hulk of the Avengers — the uncontrollable beast that they need to team up to stop.” (Leterrier).

The Hulk is a powerful being, but the only reason he causes any problems at all is because people absolutely insist on pissing him off. Seriously, how hard could it be to not try to blow him up? Just do that one tiny little thing, and all of a sudden, he's no longer a threat. Is that really so hard General Ross?

That's pretty much all that the Hulk is, but with MUCH poorer (read: nonexistant) impulse control, and the temper of a 'roid rageing two-year-old.

I think Scott Kurtz said it best about the hulk:

"Banner is haunted by his curse, only able to lead half a life for fear he’ll lose control of what’s inside him. The Hulk is angry only at things that are bothering him. Several times in this movie, the Hulk expresses his exhaustion that he just won’t ever be LEFT ALONE. Banner is frail and full of rage he has to control. The Hulk is the embodiment of rage that just wants a moment to be calm with himself. Neither side can ever get what it wants and that’s the tragedy of the character."

Corax = dumb.

Theaters will NEVER sell 100% of the seats for a showing. Unless they are dumb, too.

First, second AND THIRD night all the seats in my cinema where packed and this was to screens playing the same film.

That happened on Indiana Jones, Pirates, Iron man... Um I've forgotten the other big movies I went to...
It was really too big:
