Advertising Failures... byo crappy ads

Postby spartanhelmet » 09 Sep 2008, 06:20

So every now and then you'll notice that one brand... that one awkward ad that makes for a lulzy experience. You know it's on the list of advertising failures when done with shitty execution and it shines with mediocrity... a bad idea, with a worse jingle.

Australia has a new one for the list. I'd never really heard of the brand over here until a couple days ago when I saw the ad. I really can't say more without you watching this video. I'd probably feel depressed if that was my own work.

So yeah.... one of the most ridiculous things I've seen in a while. What shocking examples of product pitching have the forum seen, video or otherwise?

Isn't a hairy lemon just a sour yellow kiwi?

Or rather kiwi?

Dang. That's both hilarious and really sad at the same time.

Or more accurately it's hilarious with the initial realization but then sad when you realize the eventual end of the action, but oddly enough it's not sad enough to make one stop laughing. It's actually a surprisingly excellent video on youtube, not just well done, but with real emotional strength.

It almost makes you feel guilty about laughing at it. Almost.

Are there no crappy ads that forumites can add to the thread? While Hairy Lemon has plenty of crappily animated lulz, I'm sure there's something else out there :)

the majority of people don't get this ad, and i can't show it, but the latest brand power ad about toilet paper is a real gem. one of the pros of having bigger toilet rolls is apparently it won't take up your time in your busy day CHANGING THE ROLL. imagine the time you could save in a lifetime.

i've always hated those easy off bam ads, and with a quick google search it appears the americans have it much, much worse:

Wow... I'll never take our annoying Bam guy for granted again :O

I saw a video after a couple of related-vid clicks which I gladly hadn't seen for months... definitely up there the worst is Mongomery's Flea Market. That's just terrible, but this one is bad... yet very good :D

Just found this onetoo.... it's a damn shame it's not real :(

That's because legally, they can't, as it's a tube of wax and thus doesn't actually do anything. Allegedly it contains some plant and a carcinogen as active ingredients, it parts per billion and parts per trillion respectively. So if it somehow does do anything, it will give you cancer as well.

That Cillit Bang commercial is actually bareable in english. Imagine EXACTLY the same commercial but with Dutch speaking. It's like a badly dubbed kungfu movie, but then one that has first been redubbed to english and then redubbed to dutch. It's just off.

For some reason I was half expecting the penny to be half gone. That would probably make me want the product then.

Well all we really learn is that apparently Bill Gates is a bad actor.

Oh and this pretty much drew the line for me with Billy Mays.
