Initial particle beam injections were successfully carried out on 11 August 2008 and the first attempt to circulate a beam through the entire LHC is scheduled for 10 September 2008 at 9:00 GMT. This event will be webcast. The first high-energy collisions are planned to take place after the LHC is officially unveiled, on 21 October 2008.
speaking of this, are any of you getting any news feeds on the TV about this thing? i find it pretty disturbing that we've had nothing here, and everyone i talk to has no idea that it exists.
edit:
lulz.

Anyway.. there are two schools of thought on "end of world GET", with both being equally stupid.
The first is based on (if I remember correctly) the need for a black hole to be created to counteract the loss in not-proven-at-all "Hawking radiation".
The other is a completely non-scientific idea of strange matter. It's basically a story made up by someone with a hardon for the transformation effect of the Spice.
I've heard a few retarded things on radio on the way home from both presenters and idiot callers, so I'm not my usual "lol, LHC " self. One guy said we should spend money on pensioners "instead of making a big machine to collide light [sic] for a bunch of silly scientists".

oh, that's a good one, considering we're not even funding the project. how about not making the foreshore look ugly with pointless manmade islands and a 'perth eye'? this city must have one of the lowest intelligence percentiles in the world.

I have not studied once during the whole year for my exams under the impression that I would be sucked into a giant black hole
I will be thoroughly disappointed if this does not happen
edit: well that sucks
I want my channel 31 back

For those playing at home, it's a community channel that died off just a month ago. It wasn't stellar, but it was the only channel of its sort in the state.
Wait.... it dies off a month before the LHC starts up. They must be related!... TIME PARADOX!!!11one!!one!!

Not bad, but I prefer this one: http://www.hasthelhcdestroyedtheearth.com/ since the domain is shorter.
And apparently the same guy wrote the source for each one:

I saw another picture where one of the scientists looked like Gordon.
