Desert bus blood drive.
So after going through 4 pages of the blood thread.
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in possibly doing an LRR blood drive to coincide with the Desert Bus For Hope charity event.
=P Nows the chance for all the needle fearers to buck up and give a pint. Including the cast I hope. Cept for Bill because bills blood is made of marmite.

This is an excellent idea but the topic title made me laugh just looking at it.
I can say I'll look into it depending on when it is and all that jazz, that'd be the biggest obstacle for me.

My train of thought is more like a roller coaster that has loop de loops and no safety bars.
I don't know if I'm tall enough to ride.

The biggest obstacle for me would be pulling myself away from the live camera feed long enough to drive out to the facility & back.

Can I just say guys, having worked for the National Blood Service for England and Wales, when it comes to doing any like blood donation is BEST to always try and arrange things WELL in advance.
I can speak for the stats in the UK where about 90% of blood donation is used for scheduled purposes and less than 10% get used for emergencies.
So if someone is organising this do it quickly so your respective blood service can then play apporpriately for the units they receive. If you are an existing blood donor within canada (not sure if they have one authority for the whole of canada or many like the UK) pass on your blood types as that will help them as well.

Can't give blood. I have a blood condition that makes me look anemic under a miscroscope.
Funny story, When I was pregnant they did some blood tests and it looked like I had no iron in my blood from the condition so the doctor (who wasn't my regular doctor) prescribed me a very large dose of iron. I started to get sick from it and my dad reminded me that I have to tell my doctor about my condition. I did and she laughed because she previously thought I was going to die.... thanks doc.

Well I would schedule ahead if I knew when desert bus was taking place.

I'd be good for $10 if that happens.
Also, pick a date fast, and I'm (tentatively) in.
I can't! Paul doesn't even know the exact dates yet and i'm kinda holding off to because I still have a few more weeks before I can give.
We could always do it as a post desert bus thing to. Maybe something xmassy like giving the gift of life for xmas.

I'm pretty sure I'll be able to give blood by the time Desert Bus rolls around, so hopefully I'll be able to join in too.

Invisible Iron, eh? Out of curiosity, what's the condition called, if you know?

Something Doctor House would love, I'm sure.
Thalassemia.
I have the minor variation. My mother has it too.
My mom went in for surgery once and the dr thought she was dying too and came out of the operating room to give my dad the bad news, then my dad had to get a card he had in his wallet with the name of the condition on it and show the dr what the problem was... that would have been scary

I used to take a med when I was younger that made my blood mildly toxic. Not sposda give blood while taking it because, in my doctor's science-language: it's poison enough to kill a baby.
So I've always gone with "it might still be in my system" even though I haven't taken it in over 10 years. Think of the children.
