I'm actually surprised you don't have more than that after this many seasons :S

Yeah same, I've done about 10-15 vids now in standard definition and I've all ready used up about 100-150gig. You guys have done A LOT more AND in High Definition...did you get rid of some of the footage or do you just rip it in a much smaller conversion process? (I just drag off camera in RAW through Premier)

spartanhelmet wrote:A further question to anyone in the knows prices... for about 6 disks (and more later), iSCSI enclosure and a midi tower or a full tower and straight SATA for all the disks?

Well, erm, what are you trying to achieve? I'm a tad confused. (Apologies if I've just read that wrong.)

Edit: Counting USBs, another 6gb. I won't bother with tapes.
While I may not have any, my father has a lot of SD cards. Feel free to throw those in.

Basically, what I want is a centralised NAS/homeserver box for a myriad of things. That'll involve what could end up beind a crapload of storage which could run into however many TB since it won't just be me.

I've been looking at what I could use to do hardware wise, and since most of the cases I've seen are too small, I figured an iSCSI enclosure over gigE to the Solaris box could be one method if it's not a ripoff.

Half the reason I started this thread was out of seeking people in the know, and the other half is since I've always felt cramped for space and I need an idea of how much stuff most people keep.

80 GB. I only use about 30 of it.

Yes. I'm serious.

(Only on the internet can you feel like a loser for not having a ton of hard drive space.)

Oh yeah, just remembered my Iriver\MP3 player. ^.^ + 9 gig.

    5. GHOVO at 949.5 GB

Unfortunately I'd never heard of that methodology of setting up a network until just now. :P Well, I personally have no idea how to help you - apologies spartanhelmet. My methodology appears to be old and just have a centralised PC with an arsetonne of Harddrives\storage in it and connect it all up via ethernet\CAT 5e cables.

Well I've got a couple hundred gigabytes of internal storage on my two computers (Mostly the laptop, my desktop is pretty old) and then a 75 GB external hard drive for storing my music and comic files.

I perceive Terabyte storage as being like a Dyson sphere. Big, powerful, and ultimately you'll never use it all without some really serious help.

Np, Unlucky... last time I had a server box at home, I did the same. And it was my desktop anywho. Lying, you fill Dyson spheres with porn in RL, so I'm guessing the same applies with disk space.

I'm itching to hear Paul's. It's got to be good/different.

For anyone curious... Bestbuy has had some great deals on externals today. I didn't go, but it may be worth looking into. A full TB for under $175 and 500 GB for under $100.

Hmmm lets see

2x250GB(Raid0) in gaming computer
160GB in server computer

Portables

2x500GB(Raid0) - Full of random crap
500GB - full of TV shows
500GB - full of movies
500GB - full of games
240GB - laptop portable, has all personal files (photos, documents, etc)
8GB - flash drive, live CD of ubuntu
4GB - flash drive, Windows XP install disc
2GB - flash drive, work related programs and source code

Other crap that shouldn't count

2GB - PSP

Total: 3.484 TB
and I am planning to buy another 1TB for server to replace 160GB. Also thinking to move all 500GB portables into server for use on media center sharing.

My tower has a 640GB internal, I have a 250GB and a 500GB external, and my laptop with a broken screen is basically being used as an external hard drive, with 120GB. I also store things on my old 30GB iPod Video and 8GB iPod Touch.

1.548TB.

And counting. As was said before, video is BIG.

Aaaand I was way off on my estimates.

Bio the laptop: 140 GB
Washu the desktop: 38 GB
External harddrive: 465 GB

Total: 643 GB

My P2 Mp3 player also takes all sorts of files, but the size is hardly worth mentioning.

250 GB internal, with around 167 GB free
250 GB external, with about 204 GB free.

I have a lot of images stored on my system but most are in the 100KB range. And the music on my system is legal.

Lets see:
Internal:
130 (Windows partition)
130 (Linux partition)
300
500

Network (full access):
Laptop:
120
Brother's old computer (he doesn't use it, and I'm not going to move my comp over to the TV):
280
120
200
500

External:
40 (old backup, mainly just use the IDE-USB interface for drive recovery)
320
900
700

Total:4220GB, or 4.12 Terabytes

Also have another 50GB or so in flash drives, compact flash, and SD cards; plus easily another 100 in blank CDs and DVDs.

Oh, and I'm probably going to be adding to my capacity, since my father is using buying terabyte drives to double his capacity, so I'll probably end up with all his old 500GB drives, and have to find a way to plug them in.

Unlike you bums, I don't have any external drives or storage devices. Hence forth I stick with the idea I have the most space.

Plus I have the largeliest single machine, which in turn makes my computer the manliest!

You're doin' it right. But you might... have... to steam.... it though.

It's good to see such a variety. I genuinely thought everyone would have 5TB after seeing some of the computers I have this year.

Also, rule 34 on that diagram. It's just asking to become a penis joke.
