Boiling a kettle?

I want to see an analysis on the amount of energy required to print a page(including creating the paper) versus the amount of energy required to view that page on the average computer for an hour.

I predict E-bills won't look quite so attractive.

I predict they will.

Though of course it depends on what kind of energy source is being used to generate electricity for you. Here in Beautiful British Columbia we use primarily hydroelectric power, which is extremely clean and renewable.

Even with the hydro-electric dams, When you think of all the planning to take out trees, taking out the trees, transporting them, and then doing all the processing of them and then transporting paper to the distributor and then to the client, you'll find that it's a lot more to create paper than making ebills.

That being said, I prefer paper bills any day of the week.

Ah, the luxury of a home printer. :)

Not directly. I think the idea is that it uses electricity, and the generation of that electricity involves the creation of CO2. It's the same kind of thing as saying a Google search creates CO2--obviously it doesn't directly create it, it's a side-effect.

I thought it meant a stove top kettle on a gas stove....
Also, boiling with a kettle for how long? Just until the water is boiled?

I was joking a bit there. It seems silly to me because not all electricity comes from a CO2 producing source. MY Google searches, however, are electrical, but they need a nuclear reaction to generate the 1.21 jiggawatts required for the search engine.

Ok, to make up for all the carbon we throw in to the atmosphere, let's all collectively hold our breath. Ready....

More at Eleven.

Except that Wissner-Gross didn't actually say that. In fact, he contacted the Times (who originally published the story misrepresenting his research) and asked for a correction, which they refused to make.

For someone who googles all the time, you're not very good at it.

So, I hear it was made up.

Edit: I just skimmed a little bit more of the article (I cbf read all of it) and supposedly it's just a misunderstanding. Still, some inaccuracy doth occur.

Just so you know, 'global warming' is really only a temperature boost of a few degrees worldwide, which will result in radical local climate change, including severe cooling in some areas.

Even though the globe in general is getting slightly warmer, this does not mean that the weather everywhere is going to get warmer, just that it is going to get generally fucked up.
