Childsplay - Epic monies were made

Postby spartanhelmet » 17 Jan 2009, 02:00

I think the number speaks for itself - US$1,434,377

Minus the $70k from DB, that number would be measly... uhh, maybe not :| ... but a round of applause for all Childsplay donators, anyway. :)

Consider this signature a museum piece, since I love it and am unlikely to change it ever.

So yeah, 4.9% of that came from Desert Bus.

Rock on.

So next year lets make 10% of the donations.... LRRCREW will be playing two weeks straight... in a solitary soundproof box perhaps?

Maybe the two weeks in a box part is a stretch, but I don't think 10% is crazy. Triple the year before? It's happened once already.

I think that DB has plenty of potential ready to be unleashed next year, and the hype-train hasn't really got to full speed - I mean, Joystiq got the story out half way through.. that's a little bit of lost monies.

No pressure :)

Using the same donation model as the last two years, for the crew to have played for two weeks straight they would have to have raised a hundred billion dollars.

Belgium is not worth that much. They'd have to pay you extra to take it from them

Interesting thingy: I had a really strange delayed Desert Bus related dream last night. All I can remember from it is that around the $30 000 mark, the game started screwing up and been interesting. And I was in Victoria playing for some reason.

Maybe going to sleep on painkillers and cold pills isn't a good idea?

Personal Belief:

In Desert Bus '07, The crew only expected 5k, and the 20ishK was beyond expectations. Now in Desert Bus '08, the same equation was kept, and near the 70k mark it was taking thousands of dollars to move to the next hour.

Perhaps the equation should be changed to a more logistic model?

Yeah, I was thinking that after 100 hours or so, changing it to 5% per hour might help encourage a few more donations (lets face it, people will donate more to push you to the next hour, then they would to bring you $1000 to the next hour).

Isn't that backwards? A logistic model would be moderate amounts of money per hour for the first bit, then small amounts of money for large blocks in the middle and then eventually no matter how much money people spent they would simply move very slightly closer to the asymptote.

I think the current logarithmic model is fine, really. It gets the ball rolling quickly and people eventually get to go home.
