Not fire twirling per se I just set fire to panflets that get given to me by people asking if I know the word at the door. It's only spinning when I'm trying to put it out when the flames catch a bit too quickly.

This is correct. I have been spinning poi for about 6 years and doing fire for 5. I also do fire hula hoop as well as fingers, fan's and flags.

Forgive the OBVIOUS comment here, but that is hot.

So it IS what I thought it was. I bought some poi a while back but haven't practiced for a good long while. I think I'll get into a bit before setting them on fire.

Those photos are great, by the way.

Poi are pretty easy to make. You just need a couple of tennis balls, some string or rope, and something to use as a streamer (such as caution tape).

I haven't played with any for a while; I was never very good with them anyway. I've never played with fire.

Regular poi doesnt even need the streamer. What your referring to is called a commit tail.

Right. the streamer makes it move a bit slower so that when you rack yourself while practicing, it doesn't hurt nearly as bad.

the wacking your self durring practice is a vital part of learning though. If you hit your self hard enough you will learn dont to fuck that trick up again. Its easy as that.

Hmm. true, a very valid point.

I'm going to have to make a new set sometime. I wonder if I'll be able to find some tennis balls around the courts at my apartment complex.

I learned how to do poi when I was about 9 but not often and have never done it with fire. I am also the only one I know that can spin two with one hand, so I can do 4 at a time

here's a reasonably funny story about poi: the first time i ever did it was with a group of art students varying in ages from 18-60. this guy i know was a crazy old dutch hippie and decided he needed to try it while he was intoxicated and could barely walk straight. needless to say, after they were lit, he let them hang by his sides and asked "how do i do it?" while setting both pant legs on fire. he didn't notice for a disturbingly long time. drunks being saved by drunks is pretty funny.

I know how to knit! Also crochet!

(This thread makes me feel inadequate.)

Awesome pictures, though! I didn't know people did this... I mean, you know, regular people who aren't professional performers.

Only been spinning for about a year now, but I can already do some stuff that's apparently kinda tough (behind the back, under the legs, forwards and backwards 5-weave, 4-beat butterfly type thingamawoodjie). No videos, though, because I have no camera.

Well, okay, that's kind of a lie; I've got a shitty webcam. Might try putting something on YouTube or something eventually.

Ed: Oh, and my Intrepid Wiry Poi of the Boar gives me a bonus +12 awesome modifier, but causes d4 fire damage to my clothing.

Better the pants than the hair, though.

Record yourself with fire. As an added bonus, if you accidentally burn down your house, it'll become the hottest new viral video!

pun not intended

that's a lie. Entirely intentional.

Me too on both counts. Though I suck at knitting...

I wish I could do something cool like poi, firesticks, Fuck even BATON, but knowing me I'd royally fuck something up. I'm more talented with my mouth skills (singing, acting, beatboxing) and footwork (ballroom dance specifically) than anything requiring hand/eye coordination. Basically give me a prop that isn't a microphone, and prepare for something to be broken.

As for Angelle, this is gonna sound really stupid, but are you Hawaiian or Polynesian or something? I feel like it's one of those, but I can't figure out which.
