HD LRR!

Postby ecocd » 30 Jan 2009, 14:29

I noticed the Twitter feed said LRR in HD on youtube. It looks fantastic. Has this been around for a while and I've only found it now or is it brand new?

It's new, it's been announced on their twitter account.

I assume it's just some of the new ones that are HD? I can't wait to get home and check it out.

Yeah, turns out no one cares about internet video if it's not on YouTube, so we're finally giving in and actually updating our channel.

Not all our videos even have HD versions, but those that do will be up there. Matt is handling the upload process.

It's a big, high-def new day.

heh, I was going to officially announce this when everything was done, but yes - everything is going up on Youtube, and everything should have a High Quality or HD version available, so the older stuff should be good quality, the newer stuff GORGEOUS! Videos with an HD version have been tagged [HD] in their title lines.

For the moment I am handing the batch uploading of all of our content to youtube - after that I will be administrating the channel and keeping it up to date with our new videos. But things are still underconstruction, so please excuse the mess.

It a safe assumption that there will be a cH channel in the reasonably near future as well, but I'll announce that officially when I've created it.

Enjoy!

Apparently my computer can't handle the internets needed for HD in youtube, oh well. Also, since you're not making any cash moneys from youtube (unless you're going partner up or whatever), and given that inexplicably The Bay City Takeover was up ages ago, will season 1 be making an appearance?

I'm really excited for this. I think it's a good decision and should be a big benefit to the site.

I can understand the frustration of moving to YouTube, though. There's a lot more control in leaving videos up on loadingreadyrun.com and certainly more feeling of accomplishment coming from Views here rather than YouTube. There are probably a zillion other reasons to be disappointed with YouTube, but I guess now that there's HD streaming, there's a motivating reason to go there even beyond the additional semi-anonymous exposure. Hopefully the additional traffic finds its way here.

Unlkely, with a couple of exceptions. The quality is really not up to par.

We'll see.

Uh.. I don't think they're totally moving to youtube.. at least that's the idea I got from what they said... I could be so very wrong though.

Oh, I doubt they're moving everything there, too. I just meant that there's gotta be some self-satisfaction staying entirely independent. YouTube steals a small part of your soul with every video uploaded ...

Presumably this'll also handle some of the strain whenever Revver crashes or such.

at the very least we will be mirroring the site's content on our youtube channel - but the site will very much stay alive.

likely all videos posted on the site will remain hosted by blip, but with the HD quality youtube offers, we are seriously considering embedding that instead.

likely though, we'll stick to blip here, and just run the youtube channel in paralell.

A secondary advantage to this is that if Blip.tv ever bites it, we have a backup ready to go.

If LRR really wanted to stay independent they would still be hosting there own videos and spending a huge sum on bandwidth.

The trouble with that idea is that we're not especially attached to the idea of staying independent :p if someone wants to buy us out and make us all rich, we'd be happy to accept.

This.

Actually, upon inspection, there's some serious issues with that, so we won't be.

So, the YouTube channel is not really for your guys' benefit (unless you like HD), it's really more for all of those people who can't be bothered to leave YouTube for their content.

And I'm sure eventually the Wiki will have links to all the Youtube videos as well as the links to the site. It's as good a reason as any to update the navbar with the newer one, and make sure you can actually find videos from the wiki.

I don't envy you Matt, I know how long it takes to do what you're doing, and it ties up your internets for hours... not fun!!

But we do appreciate it :)

it's not actually as bad as you'd think. I queue up six before bed, and another 6 before I leave for work. let them run while I'm not there.

Using Internets during an otherwise empty period of Internet uptime.

More efficient Internets! :)
