It's not "a channel".. it's the 'A' channel. North America is funny like that... using letter instead of just good ole numbers :)

More info here and here. Hudson Mack weekdays, Cheryl Bloxham late-night Bruce Williams for Island Weekend news with Erick Thompson and Astrid Braunschmidt reporting.

What confuses me is how you know this. :P Still, thank you very much for the clarification. :)

So, yes -

Well, that's easy, it's because I stalk the weather girl... or maybe thanks to wikipedia and their site :P

It's not on Youtube... thanks to my speedread of 10 search pages within the right timeframe, I can say it's not there. It might be somewhere else, but I swear someone kicked up a fuss about A channel (paraphrased) "sucking at journalism since they haven't done a story".

No I haven't seen it around but I'll do a search, it wasn't high on my list since I was there when the cameraman turned up.

Your TVs do, but your channels all have those funny names... like KUSA or KCNC in your local area, for instance.

For me, I just have 2,3,7,9,10. A couple of the smaller ones have a national acronym (like we have an ABC, something called SBS) but I've never hear something like "KAUS 4" over here. That's all I meant :)

those KAOS and KORT and WERT names are all station call letters. see wikipedia for more info. Any station that broadcasts over air (not cable or satellite; just plain radio waves direct to your antenna) needs to have a call sign associated with it, hence "KOAT 5." I'm sure stations worldwide do use similar call signs. They might just not bother broadcasting the message, "this is our call sign and channel, you simpletons!"

it's not even that - our channels are all named "Fox" "Global" "CBC" etc. That particular station is named "A Channel" it's not the "A" Channel.

It used to be the "NEW VI" [where the VI was the abbreviated location: in our case V.I., but in others T.O. or what have you] they changed it to A channe to standardize nationally.

Then it was Ch

As though the word Check was too long.
