Honestly, I'm more interested in my Friday the 13th plans. It's movie night at home under the covers, folks! I have a friend coming in for the long weekend. (Monday is a holiday for us US gov't workers.) Monday afternoon I'm getting together with some girls to go see "Shopaholic". Otherwise, no major plans.
I think Valentine's day is all right. It's a nice excuse to do something "romantic" if you're in a relationship (should you require an excuse) but when I was single it never bugged me.
I do not for the life of me understand the "single people getting drunk and depressed" attitude on the day. When I didn't have a girlfriend you know what Valentine's day was to me?
Saturday.
Just any other day.
Even better? Cheap candy the next day!!
Seriously, it's not a reason to get all QQ. Look at it as you're saving money on flowers.

Agreed completely. I have friends who take it REALLY seriously. I just don't take notice usually other than to use it as an excuse to get together with some friends I haven't seen for awhile. We go for a nice dinner and enjoy each others company and by the end of the night we tend to forget it's even Valentines Day.

THANK YOU, GRAHAM.
Seriously, I couldn't have worded it better. Vday never bugged me when I wasn't in a relationship. It never bugged me when I'm in a relationship.
I am like Annchan, I get to bake cute stuff for people and put smiles on peoples faces. Last year, I worked at Planet Organic. So I baked cupcakes with all natural raspberry icing. It was great. People who were usually drone and dreary perked up and smiled.
This year (I can't tell the LRR forums my entire plans becuause there is sneakery afoot) I am going to be baking a cake for Matthew, and we are going to stay in and watch movies.
In my mind, the persecution of St Valentine, is just another reason to show love to everybody.
Walk in like DeNiro, and leave like Brando.

Me and my girlfriend use it as an excuse to do nice things for each other. We went out for dinner Wednesday, I bought her some flowers (because she absolutely loves them) Yesterday, and we're going to a movie tonight.
It also means that I get cookies made for me .
But yeah we're avoiding trying to go out and do anything on Saturday itself because it's usually way to crazy in restaurants and stuff.

Yah graham nailed it right on the nose. I never really cared about vday when I didn't have a girlfriend. And now that I do we just go away for the weekend every year. The 11th is our anniversary. So normally we hang out and grab some dinner and see a movie on that night and then go away for the weekend spliting the bill 50/50. I enjoy it much more than making a big deal of vday.
I'll probably end up drinking beer and listening to music and playing tf2. But I'd do that anyway even if it wasn't valentines day, i kinda wonder what its like to be with someone for the day, but then I realise I don't care all that much. I was kind of upset when i went to the shops the other day, they had all these signs up with pictures of candy that said "sweeten up your valentines day!" and I was all "Fuck you, don't take the piss out of me! you know i can't have candy so don't bloody well rub it in >:("
This year I decided that we'd make a video in some attempt to be relevant. It'll be here: http://www.scuurvy.com/video once its uploaded.

.
Vegan cupcakes (Lots of recipes can be found online or you can probably get something from the local vegan foods store)
Make a card
Write a song
Get flowers anyhow even though they will die, she might dry them or make potpouri or something.
A book?

These are all good ideas. In fact, any homemade idea with some form of thought is good.
This V-Day, I'm prolly not gonna do anything, but tonight, my friends are having "Take your other partner on a date" night. We are all ballroom dancers (the reason for the "other partner") so we are going to dinner then ice skating as a group.
Though tomorrow I may be doing stuff for Relay for Life, then going to see the NRT production of "South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut".

Up until a couple years ago, and even mostly last year, I was in exactly the same mindset, and I still am for the most part. It's only miserable to me this year and last year because of extenuating circumstances that greatly annoy most days, and this one just does so much (especially in high school) to remind me of that and shove it down my throat. It's not so much depressive, but bugs the hell out of me and makes me want to drink even more than usual.
For example, a couple days ago I got a psych assignment that said this: You're on a first date with a girl you've been eyeing for a long time. Describe what's happening on the date and relate it to the biological functions of the nervous system, and describe what's going on their in each situation. Except with a lot more stuff thrown in about "love been in the air" and that crap.
It shouldn't be a big deal to me, but things like this bug me anyways (I did not sign up to psych to write romantic fiction), and this one especially bugs me for the simple facts that I've never been on a date, the one time I actually expressed my feelings for a girl, things happened that I will not explain here as I don't like airing dirty laundry about other people, but needless to say it didn't end well for anyone, and is now a constant thorn in my side and source of misery to me (moreso her than what happened), and the only other girls I've ever liked I've known for so long that it's awkward to even think about them that way.
I know, I should pick up and move on, but I'm very bad at that. If not for been in high-school, I'd probably be in a lot better mood, but they just seem to want to do so much to shove so much crap down my throat, it just makes me more nauseous and fed up than usual.
TL;DR: Shit happens, and I just happen to be covered in shit right now, so I need a that much more.

Even better, get it on tape!
Valentine's Day holds no meaning for me, but everyone makes such a big fuss about it that I instead use it as "Pick on the Couples Day." I think a certain Mr. Dean put it best.
This year, however, since I narrowly avoided actually having a girlfriend for the first time in half a decade(more because she isn't interested than anything else), I'm... strangely out of ammunition.
Though as wootly as half-off candy is, I'm not sure I can stomach that volume of "pink."
I try to understand, and think I succeed pretty well at understanding, most attitudes towards Valentine's day. It just seems to come down to personal situation, as do most contentious issues in life. Sure, if you've not been in a relationship for a long time, such that you've stopped brooding over whatever happened in the past, then it would be senseless to do the "Get drunk and depressed" thing -- it would just be a pathetic excuse to go out drinking. But the flipside of the coin is a situation like Master Gunner's where wounds still haven't healed, and one can't help but feel somewhat dejected by what would be perceived as vapid joy by everyone around them.
My situation's a little ... odd, right now. In theory I shouldn't do anything, because not only is the apple of my eye not very interested in Valentine's day (The commercialism is her reason ... which I think can be argued against; there's no reason not to do something on Valentine's day just because it's heavily commercialised -- but likewise there's no reason to be over-extravagant for the sake of a single day, which would suggest that your partner is only worth that much effort one day a year.)
Hm, that was a long parenthetical statement. Let's try again. In theory, I shouldn't do anything because not only is the apple of my eye not very interested in Valentine's day, but she's kinda ... not mine .... That tends to dampen things somewhat.
Most likely I'm just going to write her a letter, with appropriate content. Probably throw some Catullus in -- he's always a barrel of laughs. ("Appropriate" meaning "Nothing that's going to attempt to change anything". 'Cause nothing's gonna change.)
