Casting Call for voice actors.

Postby Hakaryu » 18 Feb 2009, 18:01

Me and a friend came up with the idea of doing recordings of people reading the works of HPL (HP lovecraft)and making the recordings available for free.

Reason being, is that HPL's stuff is really fun to listen to and sometimes its easier to understand it when its being spoken rather then reading it on paper.

Our original plan was to just do the recordings ourselves but we thought it would be more fun if we got other people involve.

Anyone interested please record a 30 second clip of you doing something creative. whether its singing, telling a joke, reciting shakespeare. What ever =P.

The clips can be sent to me via my email.

I might just do this. I'll have to find a working mic, though.

I might submit something. I don't think I have that good of a speaking/reading voice though. Creepy voices on the other hand, I excel at.

=P we don't necessarily want a reading voice. When doing the stories we want you guys to be creative with how you read them. Liven things up a bit.

very interesting, I'm not a voice actor, and I don't do anything fancy with my voice so I'm not going to try to be a voice actor. I'm very interested in hearing this, I've never read the books myself, but I want to know the book call of cthulu and I'm sure there are other books he did that will apeal to me as well :D the only thing that MIGHT be an issue, are his books public domain?

Yeah. All claims that someone renewed the copyrights to his works are refuted. They've gone to the Library of congress and poured over 100's of records and there still are no records of the copyrights being renewed.

The ingredients as read on the back of a bag of Doritos cool Ranch Flavor Tortilla Chips. Net Wt. 1 3/4 Oz. (49.6 g)

Doritos Ingredients Take 1
Doritos Ingredients Take 2
Doritos Ingredients Take 3

1 is read straight with enough voice inflection to be more much more interesting than Ben Stein's trademark monotone. The ending three words were from a previous recording that I had recorded over.

2 is my failed attempt at a nondescript British-ish accent that drifted around the island then to kinda Australian and ended up in the South US. I'm not sure how that happened really.

3 I sang it, improvised tune, which thus means I might very well have directly copied something else.

Each clip is 60 seconds or slightly less in .wav format and about 2.5 MB cause I'm too cheap/lazy to have a better recording program. Uploaded to mediafire so all can enjoy.

Enjoy!

Neat! I've been wanting to do my own Mindwebs episode for "In the Walls of Eryx" for some time now. Maybe I'll record something for you.

My voice goes way off at night, so I can't stretch it as much to make anywhere close to the weird and creepy noises I can during the day. It just keeps going all airy and completely inaudible right now instead. I'll try again tomorrow and see if I can get a good one.

So, here's my 3 samples. I chose Charge of the Light Brigade since I had it handy, it's fairly simple, and I enjoy it.

#1 Normal talking voice

#2 First attempt at creepy voice

#3 Second attempt at creepy voice

I didn't know Unclever Title was the generic narrator guy for commercials.

I currently have a definite lack of available microphones.

Should be fixed in a week or two.

Me reading Little Red Riding Hood from Politacally Correct Bedtime Stories.

I was going to read some Cory Doctorow, but I keep on stumbling over myself.... and I end up with a few hundred tracks in audacity (I start a new track when I start a new paragraph, though sometimes it's closer to 2 and a half paragraphs).

I'll make something else in the morning. I'm having a hard time speaking up tonight, and the gain is already up on my microphone.

I have two shows to stage at the moment and thus hardly have enough time to be on the computer, so I don't think I'll be doing this, but depending on how long this goes on for I may get a chance to in a few weeks when our show of RENT is done and I don't have daily rehearsals.

I'll definitely listen though!

Color me intrigued.
