What is your Favorite...

Postby iEatNinjaZ » 29 Mar 2009, 15:13

Ive noticed that everyone who is a part of this forum loves to give his/her opinion on things (its human nature).
Every once in a while there's a thread asking what is your favorite such and such.

This is something people should include in their introduce yourself thread, but nobody does.

How about a thread where we tell all of our favorite things.

Ill go first!

For the record, I hate these types of things.

FAVORITE

Food: Mince (not to be confused with mincemeat, it's a family recipe that's basically a stew whose sole ingredient is several pounds of ground beef).

Drink: Moosehead Lager/pretty much any fruit juice (and by that I mean fruit juice, none of this vegetable stuff)

Band: Don't have one.

Song: Again, don't really have one

Movie: A tie between My Fair Lady, Fight Club, In Bruges, and Star Trek II, depending on my mood.

TV show: Mythbusters

Book: Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or Catch 22

Super Hero: Batman

Video Game: Right now, TF2. Historically, Diablo 2.

Car: Never interested in cars enough to have an firm opinion, but I am partial to old-style Mustangs and Cadillacs.

LRR Video: Quantum Documentary

Comic: xkcd and irregular webcomict

Quote: "Ok. You are now firing a gun at your imaginary friend near 400 GALLONS OF NITROGLYCERIN!" -Tyler Durdan / "Truth is relative, pick one that works." -Shark / FUCK. THAT. SHIT. -xkcd

Actor/Actress: None

Color: None

Yeah, I really don't have definitive preferences or favourites on many things. These are simply what came to mind at the time, trimmed down to a reasonable amount. For any given point, there's a dozen more things I could have put. Or in the cases where I put none, I just don't care enough and have no interest.

FAVOURITE

Food: The finest meal I've had - and one I would gladly have again - consisted of an entree of duck liver pate, foie gras, stewed prunes, and toast corners. The main course was a Cowichan Valley duck leg and breast, flash-fried and then baked, with an accompanying potato galette and asparagus, as well as a raspberry compote (I really need to learn the shortcuts for accents here). Cheese course of double-smoked brie from the Cowichan Valley, parmesan of Saltspring Island, and gouda from, I believe, somewhere on the mainland. This was served with a selection of fresh fruit. Dessert was a fantastic lemon wedding cake.

As for normal-ish meals, you'd be hard-pressed to beat my mom's standard caesar salad (homemade croutons!), flank steak marinated in soy sauce, ginger, garlic, Worcestshire sauce, honey, and brown sugar, and fresh sourdough bread and butter.

Drink: Tuborg beer (lager?), Laphroiag cold, neat, and Coke.

Band: The New Pornographers.

Song: Bleeding Heart Show, by those mentioned above.

Movie: Fair to say that I can't pick just one.

TV show: BSG QQ.

Book: Bluebeard (Kurt Vonnegut) or Girlfriend in a Coma (Douglas Coupland)

Video Game: Now, Fallout 3. Prior to that, Goldeneye.

Car: '65 Corvette.

LRR Video: Son of a Bitch.

Comic: xkcd, Calvin and Hobbes.

Talking about myself? Don't mind if I do!

Can't say I have a solid favorite for any of these, so I'm gonna go with my pick of the moment.

FAVORITE

Food: The Lunch Bagel, a proprietary creation.

Drink: Cider, any kind. TEA. Fruit juice so long as there's no extra sugar in it.

Band: Arrogant Worms 4 EVAH

Song: Draconian Crackdown - Rasputina

Movie: Demolition Man

TV show: Good Eats, original Junkyard Wars

Book: My battered, much-lended paperback of Kushiel's Dart. It's beginning to acquire a personality of its own at this point.

Super Hero: Hiroyuki Sakai

Video Game: Bloody Fun Day. Yes it's a flash game, shut up.

Car: The psychedelic bus across the street.

LRR Video: Eyewitness Accounts, if I really had to pick ONE.

Comic: Wondermark

Quote: Don't follow in my footsteps, sometimes I walk into walls. - my coworker

Actor/Actress: Ew, why? Fine - Ian McKellen, Uma Thurman

To be fair, if I had to pick a book based on its literary merits, I'd have gone with God's Fires by Patricia Anthony. Also, metcarfre - thoughts on Girlfriend In a Coma? I picked it up once but it didn't hook me; hence I am curious.

Book: "The Gods of Pegäna" by Lord Dunsany.

Super Hero: My father

Video Game: "Shadow of the Colossus" & pretty much anything else by Fumito Ueda & Team ICO

Car: '57 Chevy & DeLorean. My grandparents bought the Chevy new & drove it for 30 years. When my folks would visit them for a week every summer I'd get to ride around in it with Grandma or Grandpa on errands. It is currently in storage awaiting restoration. As for the DeLorean, if you're gonna build a time machine into a car why not do it with some style.

LRR Video: Any of the Small Time videos. I want more of these. Do I need to send money to get LRR off their butts to produce & film the next video? I know there are scripts.

Comic: Calvin & Hobbes by Bill Watterson, for always & forever. I was at the perfect age when this comic was new & it has influenced a lot of my personality.

Quote: "Evil will always triumph because Good is dumb."

Actor/Actress: Harrison Ford is an excellent place holder but this can change throughout the year.

Color: Purple. I recently moved to a new house but I wouldn't sleep here until I finished painting the master bedroom an appropriate shade of purple.

Hmm, how do you describe why you like ice cream? I don't know, I love Coupland's writing style, and that book sucked me in more than any of his others. The pacing is very good. That ending is damn weird though. I couldn't tell you really - I lent it out some time ago (like years) and have never gotten it back.
