The Great Hunt

Postby Nebulous » 03 Apr 2009, 16:32

Here, you ask Darwin about what feature of your body served in the great hunt generations ago. Posters feel free to reply as Darwin with a reasonable explanation.

I will go first.

How, Darwin, does my 8 extra long strands of hair as a so called neck beard, serve in the great hunt?

Okay, okay..I will respond just for an example.

Perhaps, Nebulous, in the far reaches of your ancestry...your ancestors were well known for their prehistoric slushies. So, as a result, they evolved with large neck beards to keep their necks warm.

The few hairs you have left that will no longer grow anything more than 8 long strands, is a sort of evolution in itself, or devolution. Your body no longer necessitates the need to keep your neck warm, therefore your neck beard is no longer full, but still a bit existent.

This sounds like it should be in the game forum.

Also, wierd additional body hairs could often be used to impress the very particular tiribal women, likely of French or germen ancient-ancestry.

So are we just asking about vestigial organs, or about strange body configurations in general?

Anything that you don't think could serve a purpose in the great hunt.

Clearly, such a trait could be seen as a sign of sexual prowess with ladies, increasing your chances of finding a suitable mate.

What use could a 7.⅔ inch "Appendage" serve in the Great Hunt? other than a make shift club.

Not everything is a benefit in evolution. Some things simply aren't detriments, and therefor are never lost. They may not "do" anything, but they don't hinder the passage of genes either.

Impossible. Darwin clearly suggests that every attribute had some purpose in the great hunt.

The principles of evolution have been expanded since Darwin.
