Corner Gas
Corner Gas
Has anyone here ever seen this hilarious Canadian sitcom? I used to watch it on WGN when I had DirecTV.

Re: Corner Gas
Yes. Yes I have. Pretty much all Canadians have.
Re: Corner Gas
It's really good stuff. I'm sorry it's over, but I'm glad they had the balls to stop while they were still good.

Re: Corner Gas
I saw an episode like 6 months ago and it seemed kind of slow and a bit boring to me, just not my taste I guess.
Re: Corner Gas
It's not the kind of show that slaps you in the face with it's real jokes.
That being said it's not for everyone. That also being said it's almost as Canadian as Air Farce and Red Green, except Red Green is impossible to hate.

Re: Corner Gas
Pater loved the show; he still watches reruns whenever possible. I and my mom have been ambivalent about it, while my wife would only roll her eyes if it was on, and quickly flick past it.
One day we're over having a quick lunch with them, and dad has the boob tube on with an episode of CG airing - I think the 'crisis' was videos now being available for rental from the titular store (gosh golly!), much to the ire and protest of ...(Brent Butt's character)'s dad. He gets cajoled into 'try it before you fry it' and grumbles even more about having to also rent a VCR to play the tapes, and whatnot. And in the end gets converted into supporting the 'store enhancement', even if he was kicking and screaming all the way.
I think that episode really turned my wife around - she still doesn't go LOOKING for Corner Gas, but she's liable to leave it on if she finds it while looking for something to 'listen to' while MMO-grinding.

It is not my cup of tea. My cup of tea is steeped oolong from the night market in a handmade Japanese ceramic mug. It is more of an iced tea.
But I am happy that a Canadian show actually was successful.

Re: Corner Gas
I really liked Corner Gas, it had many elements that I liked, and not just the humor.
- No laughtrack (I considder it a sin against good taste to have laughtracks nowdays)
- lot of on location shots and outdoor shots (dislikes series that are just filmed in a studio and never change)
Anyway, it's sad that it ended but I agree with Graham on this one, better it end at the top then to live on and become bad.

Re: Corner Gas
I thought it was quite good, and it's nice to have a successful Canadian show. As well, it was cool because it appealed to all age levels - my parents are big fans.

Re: Corner Gas
I jumped on the Corner Gas bandwagon back in season 1 and have never been disappointed. I'm definitely sad that it's over, but look forward to blissfully enjoying it in syndication. If it ever shows up on Blu Ray or iTunes in HD, I'll probably buy the whole series.

I believe that's the first episode, actually. So there you go.
Yeah, I love the show, and plan to buy the box-set as soon as I can.

Woo life in Saskatchewan!
I always liked it when I watched it. It had a good dry humour and a mix of how some people around here actually act.

Hell yeah I remember Corner Gas. I loved that show! My friend Loren used to pick up DVDs of it across the border and we'd watch it back when we were in undergrad.
Ask me about the Steve Flaig Experience.

You guys know it only ended last week, right?

...I do now....
Don't know about Loren, though. He basically dropped off the edge of the world after moving back to his hometown, where cows outnumber people. *shakes head sadly* The poor bastard.

I just watched the first episode, it was awesome.

Re: Corner Gas
I keep seeing this thread & thinking it's about local fuel prices. It's $2.05 per gallon downtown, by the way.

Re: Corner Gas
Yeah, $.978/litre here - a little under twice yours...and ours went DOWN. FILLED my tank (the "get gas you idiot" light came on) for only fifty-eight bucks; I used to get $50 in when the tank read "1/2" and there was room for more...

Re: Corner Gas
It floats between 96.9 and 99.9/L here in Victoria. My tank's only 40L so most times I only pay around $35 for a fill.
As a side note, if anyone is looking for a good way to save gas money, google hypermiling. It works best on the highway, but it can reduce how much gas you use by a lot.

I think it's down to around $0.90/litre here now, but ready to go up again soon.

Huh.
I read through that specific article you linked, and almost every step of the way I'm already doing that...
For example, why speed up to a red light, then slam on the brakes, and sit and wait? I coast up or brake gradually and often never come to a full stop before the light changes.
And technically I do do the 'slight acceleration' bit, but that's more to avoid the holes in my exhaust making a Godawful rattle if I push my engine harder.
True I don't religiously check my mileage, but I did for a while and found I was getting about maybe 15 km/L, and that's with a pretty heavy minivan, poorly tuned and with maybe decent tire pressure...

Re: Corner Gas
This has been one of my fav shows of late, and I'm so sorry to hear that they were ending at season 6. But, like Graham said earlier -it's good that they're getting out while they're so good.
I only have seen whatever seasons are currently in syndication here in the US, but I'm planning on buying the DVDs as soon as I can afford to.
...on a side note ...WHOAH! Swanky new forum format! I obviuously haven't been here in awhile.
