Got a snake problem? the Police has the solution

Postby Smeghead » 13 Jun 2009, 12:01

A police station in Sierra Leone have had a big problem with snakes lately, and it's gotten so bad that they decided to pull out the heavy guns. AK-47s to be more exact.

The police decided to start shoting the snakes so that they could retake the police station, and by the time the building was deemed clear and safe; more then 250 snakes had been shot.

...so... what to say about this story?

Sounds like someone could be negotiating a very lucrative movie deal right now.

Couldn't they have used shovels? An AK-47 is a bit overkill. And the collateral damage isn't worth it.

Couldn't they have called in an expert or something? Like Jeff Corwin?

Or at least use pistols?

I think they should take a leaf out of James' book from Hell's Kitchen: "Matches!"

Hey, if someone told me, you can take an AK-47 into a snake filled police station and fuck up the place......I would not question that order, in fact I would double time it to get ready faster.

He made inspector?!? Oh, deary me!

But they can't just burn down the police station, they NEED THE BUILDING (not to mention all the paperwork inside), and if they tried, I'm sure the snakes (having some modicum of survival instincts) would get out.

After all, they couldn't stop the snakes from sneaking [/i]in[/i]... :)

And the firearms would be for THEIR safety, a shovel or machete would be unnecessarily risky for the 'exterminator'.

Besides, I know an otherwise pretty tough and capable guy who couldn't even kill a lame cat with a shovel...

Coming from a pure math standpoint, a pistol in Sierra Leone probably costs more than a cheap knockoff of the AK, not to mention that the pistol they're most likely to get (9mm, .22) will probably punch a nice hole in the snake and still leave it able to bite someone. Hit a snake with the AK's 7.62 round, however, and you'll blow the snake in half.

Not to mention we're talking about police here, not trained marksmen. Having 30 to 70 rounds to hit a snake is probably what it takes.

I think the part that scares me the most is not that they shot the snakes with guns, but that there were 250 FREAKING SNAKES IN THERE!!!!!!! That is a lot of snakes!

Note to self: NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER go to Sierra Leone

I think that a shotgun would have been more effective.

Or hire an expert to move the snakes. Poisonous snakes help control pests after all.

I used to own a non-poisonous Burmese Python.

There must not be a lot of things happening for them to use AK-47's to get rid of snakes. Either that or it must have been a fairly horrible snake problem.

250 snakes in a single (likely not overly large, either) building, dude.

I have no idea where Sierra Leone is, but if their police station is in such a location that it was just all-of-the-sudden infested by 250 poisonous snakes, they should probably move it... Or get a new job before one of them opens a desk drawer and is the unlucky guy to find the one surviving, really pissed off snake.

All of A sudden. Not the. A. No hyphens. All of a sudden. The phrase doesn't make much sense when it's done right, let alone when people suggest that there's only one point in time when speaking in past tense...

Sorry, pet peeve.

And it's in Africa, where AK's are more common than... well, probably snakes... So people who are suggesting that they use something other than an AK, it's not exactly like they had a very varied arsenal to choose from. It was either a Kalashnikov or an RPG :p

Hack into the security camera feeds and then send in either mongeese or plucky civilians.

Fight night! Just think of the publicity and additional funding!
