Ask An Alex / Eximworks Discussion Forum - Back online!

Postby Alex Steacy » 06 Jul 2009, 11:28

After slaying over a thousand spam bots, demolishing thousands more junk posts and making some cosmetic changes, the Ask An Alex / Eximworks forum is back up and running. Feel free to drop by and register if you're interested in the show or any of the other stuff I'm working on.

I'm making a new avatar for it as we speak.

Yeah I'm thinking maybe we can leave behind a single topic or notice so I can stop spamming the LRR forums with shit about my show and stuff.

I mean, unless nobody cares about that... I do like the LRR fanbase.

That was original point of 'The Unofficial Ask An Alex Live Thread', but since you started doing the Let's Play segments, and I've not been able to attent AAAL for ages, I've not been able to keep it current. I'd recommand someone else start a thread, or Alex could start a twitter account just to post times/updates.

Dude, did you see the old forum? Alex is in Epic levels by now, for sure.

EDIT: here's an idea. Alex creates an Exim Works LRR forum account and create a thread. Give the login detals to Exim Works Admins, and everyone can update it with time, ect. One thread and no one person is relied upon.

You could also make a Twitter account for the same purpose.

I'm starting to think that getting a twitter account might be a shrewd move. I mean, Stephen Fry has one.

YES on the Twitter account but only use it for announcing when you are streaming (like what Gum said). It would be nice instead of subscribing to the thread and waiting for an email which in most cases I miss.

Yeah, sorry about that. We're still dealing with some spambot problems, so security and captcha levels are set at max. At least we're holding off on manual registration approval.

Suggestion for Eximworks Forum: New members can only post in the "introduction" thread, at which point a mod will review their post and unlock the rest of the forum.

A little heavy, but then you won't have people straining their eyes at DEFCON-1 level CAPTCHA.

Oh, and "OL47ESML".

We'll keep that idea in mind if the spamming gets any worse.

I've reduced the Captcha complexity so as to not piss of legitimate users - no sense leaving it as is if the spammers are just getting around it anyway.

OR... the CAPTCHA could be AAA-related, so they'd NEVER figure it out.

That'd be cool.
