I have said it before and I shall say it again for those at the back and those that otherwise also did not hear me:

75000 dollars per episode sounds like very much to me in my little simpleton financial bubble.

I was honestly really surprised when they made the announcement for this very reason. Comedy Central is much smaller than FOX and their budget couldn't possibly be the same. MST3K made the jump to Sci-Fi (Scyfy?) probably because it wasn't much of a difference in pay from their syndication days. I'm not sure how Stargate SG-1 made the jump from Showtime to Sci-Fi. Have there been other shows that jumped from network to cable TV?

What's the point of anything anymore? My life has lost all meaning.

Seriously though, WTF FOX? You're not doing much to save your tarnished image. I'm pretty sure Rupert Murdoch just likes to build up our hopes so that he can dash them against the rocks, much like the puppies he murders so he can use their blood in his sacrifices to the nether-gods for more buying power.

The cast of Friends got 1 million per episode...

75,000per is not much to keep what is one of the most popular shows on air.

Stoopid Fox and their stingyness!

I'm sure they'll come to an agreement. It's just a ploy to try to make them worry. I think even FOX knows the show wouldn't be the same without them.

Also, this topic made me search for Futurama voice actor clips on Youtube for a good 20 min.

They're not definitely sacked, they MIGHT BE sacked. Two separate things. Fingers = crossed. Fox signed Dollhouse on for another season, so who knows?
Even Fox can't be dumb enough to think that the fanbase will return when the actors aren't there... shhhhhhh don't point out my logical fallacies.

Why would Fox be willing to can the Futurama voice actors, but be willing to put Dollhouse on for another season? That is bass ackwards.

Good move, Fox. You just killed the series. Then again we saw how it worked out with Family Guy.

They'll never make another season with none of the original cast. They're not that dumb. It's a bluff. They're trying to get the actors to lower their price. "You want 75K? No problem, we'll just find someone else to fill the roles. See? We're gonna have a casting call!"

They brought the show back because of its fanatical fanbase. They're not dumb enough to think that said fanbase will not be outraged by such a move. They'll reach an agreement.

edit: though they DID cancel Firefly...

I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to bring it back without them, but it would be doomed and I'm sure they know it. kinda depends on if they want to kill it or not.

It's a bluff, on both sides. Most likely, both will compromise to an amount, because a complete change in voice actors would be poison, and FOX knows it and the viewers will know it when the first episode airs. The second episode would get abysmal ratings the show would be pulled with only 2 maybe 3 episodes shown. The voice actors will agree because they probably need the work.

In the end, both will find a number to be reasonable, or they'll work out some kind of royalty hike or something, or a extend contract and well get a compromise.

Two points:

1) If Comedy Central has picked up the series, how does FOX have the authority to do this?

2) The Simpsons voice cast gets upwards of $400,000 each, per episode, so I doubt it's a budgetary requirement.

Perhaps, but given the quality of the show and the voice talent, not to mention how many people will watch the new Futurama with them and how many will end up watching it without them (hint: not many), that's not alot. And FOX or Comedy Central can easily afford that.

And I'm with Graham on this one: If it's on Comedy Central, why is FOX doing this? Something just don't add up.

Hopefully all this will end well.

You'd be surprised, I think, to learn just how many shows FOX has its grubby little fingers wrapped around. They've got plenty of shows that they own and produce that never even appear on one of their own channels. None are coming to mind at the moment, (it's late and all) but it's true.

So FOX is still producing it even though it'll be airing on Comedy Central?

Cause CC is owned by MTV Networks, and hence Viacom.
FOX is owned by NewsCorp.
