Mountain Lion vs Man with chainsaw. Can we say epic?

Postby Mad Madam Mimm » 23 Jul 2009, 02:32

http://www.azcentral.com/offbeat/articles/2009/07/17/20090717MountainLionAttack17-ON.html

I dunno about you, but if I was camping with my wife and kiddies, instinctive reaction when attacked by a Mountain Lion would be get in the car and drive in the other direction. Very fast.

Not this guy. Took on the mountain lion with a chainsaw and walked away with only a small puncture wound on his arm. How cool is that?? It's good to find a story that doesn't end in fail.

Any time I'm out in the woods, I take .45 caliber mountain lion/bear repellent with me.

Bat-spray only works on bats, great whites and el chupacabra. You have to get bat-shark repellent if you want to repel bat-sharks.

I feel bad for the mountain lion yet i'm happy for the guy because he did something I have always wanted to do... fight something with a chainsaw, I can be a big wuss so I doubt it will ever happen.

I read a story of a man on Vancouver Island who killed one with a Swiss Army knife. Now that's epic.

In the woods I carry bear bangers and a knife for protection and that's it. Others use bear spray. Considering cougars can often be scared off by standing tall and opening your jacket (to appear larger) I don't worry that much.

England has virtually no dangerous animals, at least in the wild. No bears, no lions, (almost) no venomous snakes or spiders, no scorpions...it's a pretty safe place.

Therefore if I was going to chainsaw something to death in a manly game of death, it'd have to be the most dangerous animal that England can offer, a beast that hunts in packs and exists in plentiful numbers here, a vicious predator that will take the slightest action as a threat and an insult:

I laughed upon reading the title of the article:

"Man fights mountain lion with chain saw"

Here I'm thinking, "Holy crap! The mountain lion had a chain saw?"
Man if they ever figure out how to open doors we're SCREWED!

The lion had a Swiss Army Knife!?
Could it be the Swiss supplying these already deadly cats with deadlier weapons?

Yes, yes. "And how the bear got in my pyjamas I shall never know."
Also, the Swiss army knife is hardly a deadly weapon. Credibility is taken away when a knife shares space with a thing that could open a tin of beans in a week.

Poor lion he just wanted something to eat, and that guy was a pussy, a real man would've just fought bare handed, like Captain Sigurdur Petursson who grabbed a shark that was swimming towards his crew and then he killed it with only his knife. I'm pretty sure he must've been a pirate at some point of his life.

Honestly, you will only ever see a mountain lion if they are fucking desperate for food, and even then you can intimidate them into leaving you alone if you think fast. It seems like he wasn't the one who killed it, though, so I'll refrain from excessive raging. Poor bastard must've been starving.

When a mountain lion is coming at you, you generally don't have time to consider whether or not you can intimidate it. In fact, most people wouldn't think they could anyways. Incredibly unfortunate, yes. Incredibly stupid, also yes. But he did what he thought he had to in order to protect his family.

Hahaha, yes! But to be fair those movies did start in the forest...

Oooh yeah. That is rough. I'd take a mountain loin (or two) over a pack of chavs any day. Mostly because I'd probably end up laughing so hard at them I'd render myself defenseless.

I'd rather face off against the mountain lion because I'd be content with letting it flee, and not compelled to chase it down and end its miserable, malevolent existence and prevent it from breeding more abominations of nature.

The chavs, OTOH...

But if Cpt. Petursson "killed it with only his knife" he didn't fight a deadly animal bare-handed...

...neither did Tom Wanyadie, but I'd say using a walking stick is more badass than knives or a chainsaw.
