Also, somewhat ironically, you failed to note your own favorite style... in your own thread about styles and artists.

Re: Favorite Music Genre & Artist(s)?
I never know what to call my musical tastes anymore. Generally I say "soft rock" but, I'm not sure that is completely true.
Billy Joel and Meatloaf are probably my two favourite artists in that I'm hard pressed to find I song I don't like, rather than just 1-4 I do.
I also enjoy Lighthouse (old, obscure canadian band, like Chicago [also obscure]), Lifehouse, Coldplay, The Hush Sound, Tom Lehrer, Dido, Vanessa Carlton, Queen.

Re: Favorite Music Genre & Artist(s)?
My Facebook favourite bands/artists/composers list, in no particular order, with apologies for length:
Millionaire, Soundgarden, Queens Of The Stone Age, dEUS, The Mars Volta, Mr. Bungle, Counterglow, Spin Doctors, Skunk Anansie, Chris Cornell, Secret Chiefs 3, Temple Of The Dog, Nine Inch Nails, Babel, Porcupine Tree, Ben Folds Five, Melvins, PJ Harvey, Herbie Hancock, Die Anarchistiche Abendunterhaltung, Filter, Cyro Baptista And Beat The Donkey, Smashing Pumpkins, Ween, Manecas Costa, Turbonegro, Eagles Of Death Metal, Tortoise, Evil Superstars, John Martyn, The MC5, Radiohead, Raghu Dixit, Kyuss, Wellwater Conspiracy, Type O Negative, Ludwig von Beethoven, Honeycrack, Captain Beefheart, Apes Pigs & Spacemen, No-Man, Television, Modeste Hugues Randriamahitasoa, Desert Sessions, Abdullah Ibrahim, Xtatika, CMX, Pearl Jam, The Beatles, Haale, Monkey Fighters, Pink Floyd, Naked City, Jeff Buckley, Fugazi, Jacques Loussier, Pixies, Wildhearts, Eliza Carthy, Painkiller, Slint, Monster Magnet, Preston Reed, Claude Debussy, Faith No More, Dwarves.
So broadly speaking I'm mostly into alt rock and fusion, but if you can find a single genre description that covers all that lot, I'd be interested to hear it. And no, "music", though accurate, doesn't count.

Re: Favorite Music Genre & Artist(s)?
I guess folk/rock could be considered my favorite genre, but I'd rather not choose.
My favorite artists is also a really long list I'd rather not choose from, but here are some of them:
The Beatles
Led Zepplin
Simon and Garfunkel/ Paul Simon
Traveling Wilburys
Tom Petty
Van Morrison
Billy Joel
Stephen Sondheim
George and Ira Gershwin
They Might Be Giants
Julius C
Kiss Kiss
The Fireflies
Bess Rogers (also: Bess Rogers and the Flux Capacitors)
Jenny Owen Youngs
Age of Rockets
O'Death
The Woes
Apollo Run
Jukebox the Ghost
Dan Mills
Pro Audio
And classical composers whose names I'd need to look up to spell, and I don't feel like doing that right now.
Also, does Danny Kaye count? Cause him.
EDIT: How do I forget David Bowie and Queen?

Re: Favorite Music Genre & Artist(s)?
I like pretty much every genre. Every genre has it's merits. I might prefer one more than another, but I don't think there's such a thing as a "bad" genre. My top 5 artists at the moment would probably be Queens of the Stone Age, Wolfmother, Rage Against the Machine, Vampire Weekend, and Muse.

Chicago isn't really obscure, they were pretty big, i mean (according to wikipedia) they had 5 No 1 hits and multiplatinum albums..
Anyway, I listen to a bunch of stuff... some stuff I grew up with, like Chicago, and Tower of Power and basically anything else with a good horn line (when your dad is a trumpet player, this happens)
And I also listen to some ska, Mighty Mighty Bosstones (as my sig shows), The Toasters and Mad Caddies for now....
Hello world, remember me? I'm the sad little fuck that you failed to see, who you should have recognized When you had the chance. Hello motherfuckers now its time to dance

Yeah, I didn't think Chicago was obscure at all - they're one of the bands I grew up with (ie: my parents played them all the time)... unless there's a different Chicago that isn't responsible for Saturday in the Park.
Re: Favorite Music Genre & Artist(s)?
Whenever we have these threads I always realize how out of the loop I am, because I rarely know the bands that people list. I know the oldies, like Led Zep and Bestles and such, but the newer ones are a mystery to me.
A few of my favourites:
- Coldplay (loooove coldply)
- Vienna Teng (amazing singer/songwriter/pianist)
- Eric Wanaina (Kenyan folk pop singer)
- Do As Infinity & Bonnie Pink (Japanese pop)
- James Blunt & David Grey & Keane & John Mayer (all good)
- Imogen Heap/Frou Frou (oh yes!)
- Zeca Baleiro & Ana Carolina & Armandinho & O Teatro Magico & Djavan (Brazillian stuff)
- Soundtracks (especially anime, Yoko Kanno is incredible)
But I like tons of other stuff too. Just no rap or hip hop for me please. I think I need to try some radiohead. So many people have said they are good that I will have to check it out.

Maybe I just hang out with all the wrong people, but my girlfriend and her family loves that kind of music, so I don't know why they didn't know them. She likes Styx, ffs...
Re: Favorite Music Genre & Artist(s)?
Too difficult a question. I'll just list my Pandora stations:
Juana Molina
Beck
Talking Heads
The Real Tuesday Weld
The Smiths/Depeche Mode
Gogol Bordello
Kenna
Gorillaz
Massive Attack
Lately I've been bouncing between The Real Tuesday Weld and Gogol Bordello mostly.
