Official "Ask An Alex" Question Thread

Postby Alex Steacy » 06 May 2008, 12:45

Hey everyone! Long time no post.

For those who know me, I will be old news.

For those who do not, I'm Alex, LRR's mysterious and seldom-seen Toronto Correspondent, featured in a small handful of videos over the years. Hi!

I'm very excited today because I have a new video idea that I just thought up this very moment, and to exectue it I will need your help. First, let me explain.

One of the reasons you haven't seen me in videos recently is because my poor camera is finally showing its age, and its tape drive seems to have had the biscuit. It would be ruinously expensive to fix it, and because I'm now a ludicrously poor student, it's simply a nonissue.

However! Because I'm a stubborn and resourceful guy, I had a total "Eureka!" moment today and devised a solution. By hard-wiring the camera I can record directly to my 500gb external drive, granting me the abiity to do a VERY local video (in the region of 3 feet from my cpu).

The concept is this: I take questions from you, the forumites and (sort of) answer them with the help of a partner, with hilarity ensuing. The format might be changed as it develops, but just for testing purposes and to get things started I would like to just open up for questions.

Don't be shy! It can be absolutely anything at all. Ask about me, about Toronto, the world, your bellybutton lint, music, games, movies, building materials, whatever!

Hope to see you on the internets soon!

Giiiive me questions! Everyone is invited, especially LRR crewmembers.

Get your friends and family to send in! The Ignorance of the Universe is mine to impart to you!

Also, if we need extra questions I'll make some up for LAWLZ

I think the 2-person Q and A aspect will give a nice, different feel from the honorable Phailhaus and venerable Whatever videos.

Dear Alex,

Can I feature on one of your videos?

If all the men in the world had piled their belly button lint and all their butt hair lint do you think we could make a rather fetching matching set of T-shirt and underwear?

What games do you enjoy? - currently I'm back on a Sid Meier's kick and playing Civ 4.

Is there anything weird we should know about before you continue making these videos?

Thanks,
RC

Edit: for generally pathetic spool chocking

What is you belief regarding the number 42?

What do you, your brother, and/or your parents do for a living?*

*Largely, I'm wondering where you got the radiation kit...

Have you considered getting a better haircut that would obviate the necessity for hats in (almost) all video appearances? For that matter, what is up with your hair?

Dear Alex of Alexes,

People often talk about Toronto on here as being not-so-great. What would you say are the key highlights of your fair city? Starting with psychologically based attractions (you know what I mean, Sigmund?)...

Also, did you go to university? Are you still in university? What did you graduate with/from?

Love and Kisses,

The Corinthians (bob the corinthian, Steve the corinthian...)

PS> Also do you get the reference I just made?

So Alex, why is Pi better than Cake?

Why is it that the sky in Toronto is grey and that everyone there glows a strange green?

Suspenders? Or belts?

Paul with beard? Or Paul without beard?

Would you squish a baby duck with your bare feet for a million dollars?

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

What kind of cell phone do you have?

How big are your feet?

Do you ever not wear your goggles?
I can't think of a signature.

Alex, I'd never thought I would ask this of another man, but you're the only one I can imagine asking...

Will you help launch me from a trebuchet into the Pacific Ocean?

To an Alex...

...

...

...

What's up?

Also, Best head injury story?

Mine's when I got a concussion and I forgot many words, including the word "thing" so I couldn't even vaguely describe the words I forgot. I also forgot how to read or more accurately my brain would no longer recognize written words unless I sounded them out in my head or out loud. That was freaky, but enlightening at the same time. Once I had gained enough sense to realize this, I decided to leave my Latin class and promptly asked to go "Use the Nurse." I ended up throwing up Ravioli. And when I finally got to see the Doctor when my mom took me to the emergency room, the concussion had worn off entirely.

So... I didn't intend to type ALL of that but it's an interesting story, one of the few I have.

If a woodchuck could chuck wood, then how many backflip could be done while snowboarding on a pancake before you land the doghouse?

Dear Alex,

Where the crap is Toronto? I keep lookin on a map, but for some reason its location is changing every time.
So...Can your city teleport? And if so, why don't you teep into Florida and experience some real humidity for once?

Furthermore, what the hell is poutine? And is it true that all Canadians bleed maple syrup and sneeze hard liquor? What is the proper way to feed a Canadian caught in, say, a spiked punji pit in my back yard? Should I be concerned with the three-foot-long-spike through his chest?

What is the square root of a duck?

Dear Alex,

What is the height of an infinite plane?

What, on a scale of -974 to 8, is the awesomeness of a bear midriff?

Why is it so hard to sea past the end of the dock?

Please, using statements created entirely with song titles, explain why we should trust your wisdom? (Also: if it is too difficult, you may use movie titles. Also also: This is just to see if you are awesome enough to do it. XD)

Sincerely,
Nomadic

P.S. All spelling is intentional...I want to see you take what sounds like a normal question and make a weird answer out of it...that totally answers my actual question. Humor!...or at least, poorly contrived humor...

Dear Mister Alfred Ex,

Man cooking 4, do it? (question mark added for qualification as a question.) A proof to your resourceful & inventiveness & above all, manliness, by filming the entire process within 3 feet of your computer setup.

Also, would you tell us about your battered yet stylish trademark goggles? (question added for qualification as a question.)

Alex, I am investing in a video camera because I have wanted one for years, and if you help me pick one then I will help you film things if you ever want to move more than 3 feet from your computer.

That is not really a question.
