Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I really loved this video, and not just because the idea of a huge number of cosplayers chasing after Graham tickles my funnybone. Also: Doctor Who cosplayer!

Yeah, Pocky's pretty hard to come by here in Florida; you either have to go to a convention or anime store, or a Japanese food store, or something like a "World Market" where they have food from other countries, to find it, and even then, selection is pretty limited. Alas!

And if you say you hate all anime because they're stupid and boring, you're watching the wrong anime. Not all anime are 200+ episodes long and stuffer from a complete lack of pacing. Lots of anime are 13 or 26 episodes total, with strong plot and great pacing. Obviously, things like Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, but there are others. I'm currently watching Darker than BLACK, which is relatively new and really good. Only 26 episodes!

I find it amusing that you guys were able to get their cooperation, but, I guess mentioning video cameras and internet would do the job just fine, awesome video made me smile =3 (There really isn't a hentai room is there? ._. thats just not right T_T)

Really funny guys. As an anime fan myself, I found the whole thing to be totally amusing. Some of the tropes and stereotypes mentions have a grain of truth to them as well, which made it all the more amusing. Especially the "hydra in the trousers" line.

Ah, character-Graham expressed exactly my sentiments about DBZ. I have twice now illustrated how the average DBZ fight goes. I think I managed 13 full episodes before the first punch was thrown.

the hentai commentary reminds me of Yahzee's comment in the most recent ZeroPunctuation. Is there any connection?(that sequence had me laughing hardest, by the way. There is no good porn, but it seems Japanese porn is worst.)

And Cake, I'm sure we can find something for you. At very least, Ghost in the Shell has now released two regular seasons and two more movies, as well as a PS2 and PSP game. The PSP game is an FPS, and should be avoided(though it's better than Rainbow Six for PSP), but the PS2 game is great. Also, you owe it to yourself to check out FullMetal Alchemist.

Love Hina! Win!

And yes, Pocky is marginally difficult to find at a reasonable price in the States. At least, unless you go to a dedicated anime shop/asian food store/anime convention. Nan Desu Kan was worth it for the snacks!(jelly-filled marshmallows for win!)

Great video. With every passing reference, I felt a swelling of nerd pride. Also dug the nod to xkcd, if indeed it was a nod. Mad props for the orchestration of the chase scene at the end.

The "Sailor No-Friends" line and the hentai scene had me in stitches.

My name is Captain Derk, and I approve of this video.

Oh, and by the by, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi is a hell of a show. I would buy the box set, but I'm poor, so no anime anthologies for me. I own the Neon Genesis Evangelion box, but I bought it in the States when the Canadian dollar was being owned.

Which version? I have the Perfect collection, but I'm trying to get the two DVDs from the Platinum collection.

Also trying to get my hands on End of Evangelion, and I can't wait until the "Rebuild" OVAs become available over here.

Have you checked out any pawn shops? My bank account is still empty, but I have a good 3-5x as much anime as I ordinarily would because I bought most of it second-hand.

I too have the Perfect edition, and was going to trade it in to get the Platinum edition. Yay for remasters.

Yukikaze wrote:Have you checked out any pawn shops?

I could, but I highly doubt I'd find anything worth a lick. Anime is hard to come by in the Quebec heartland. I'd have to go down to Montreal to get my fix, and that's 45$ for a bus ticket.

This was GREAT. I do agree about DBZ, though I think character-Graham was way too gentle in his criticism. DBZ is what they make otaku watch in Hell.

Also, Kathleen looked really cute in that hat.

Bought at a yard sale:
Evangelion Perfect Collection
Noir
Appleseed

Bought at a pawn shop:
Serial Experiments Lain volumes 1, 2, 4(2 was loaned to a friend who I haven't seen since)
Record of Lodoss War(all)
Witch Hunter Robin(all)
Yukikaze volumes 1 and 2(no relation to my chosen screen name)
Last Exile volume 1
Ghost in the Shell: SAC season 1 volumes 3-5
Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz
Neo Ranga(full series)
Final Fantasy Unlimited(full series. Not very good.)
RaXephan volume 1
Orphen volumes 1-3
Voices of a Distant Star
Knight Hunters volumes 1, 2
.Hack//Sign volume 1
Fafner volume 1
Armitage the Third: Dual Matrix and Polymatrix boxed set
Earth Girl Arjuna full series
Bubblegum Crisi(random episodes)

whew.

I've got a few others that I got as gifts or bought at a regular store, but that's not the point here. If you're patient, pawn shops are treasure troves.

EPIC. FUCKING. WIN. Graham did a super performance as an anime-hater and Kathleen had dog ears. Wow. She's a closet furry. Gotta love the chase scene at the end.

Also, hentai is strange. REALLY strange. I can still remember quotes from a surgeon such as: "Let's make another asshole."

Yeah. According to Hentai, rape is like saying hello in Japan. And contrary to popular opinion, the girls don't fight back. It's like the "Kick the goddamn pervert in the sack" rule doesn't apply.

GAH.

Still, awesome job guys, I really got to get out to one of these conventions.

Also, Love Hina kicks ASS. I have the books.

The chase scene was really the best, it was awesome (with sauce) to be in the line of fire for the chase.

yes, there's a hentai room... we, as staff, asked the whole audience to raise up BOTH their hands before we started the episode. >.> and then Kelly forgot to stick my webcomics panel in the schedule and gave me the hentai room for my panel for 1/2 an hour... then promptly kicked me out because apparently porn is more important than learning how to make webcomics XP

Kei-kon is great XP we're pretty small and private-ish-ness and the staff mostly consists of friends we 'kidnap' for the weekend... I think it's rare to find volunteers who aren't in some part of our table top role playing groups XD

Tyler you need to send me those pictures! and congrats on being in another video XP you seem to always make it into the kei kon videos.

So, to clarify.... GIBB was MIA and not brought to con... :( he was missed. but somethings can't be avoided... time con was time sensitive.

Yes, there was a hentai room. and that WAS the real poster for it.

LoadingReadyRun had a few hour block in one of the room where they showed "Matt's favorite's" from season 1-3. After there was a Panel, which the sold delicious dvd's and shirts.. mmm i got the DesertBusForHope and Talk Like a Pirtate shirts

Anime I have enjoyed.

  • Outlaw Star
  • Cowboy Bebop
  • Trigun
  • Samurai Champuru
  • Anything by Hayao Miyazaki
  • Gunsmith Cats
  • Puni Puni Poemi
  • Excel Saga
  • Lupin III
See, I have mastered the art of enjoying quality works in a specific medium without becoming a retarded slobbering fanboi. I do not follow the culture of anime nerds. Just as I also enjoy Star Trek: The Next Generation without being a Trekkie.

Furthermore: Jigen with a fucking Barrett.

I'm glad I'm not the only one... though now that it's been said, they're probably gonna make a heist movie set in a Star Trek convention, where Jason Statham has to dress as Picard to go incognito.

It'll still be better than War.

Con

Postby Daniel » 29 Feb 2008, 06:58

This was terrific! By far my favourite of your con videos. A good script, and just the right length, with truly spectacular execution of the ending. I was into Anime as a teenager, when it was all exclusive and bootlegged, but since then Graham's characters attitude is mine - making an exception for my beloved His and Her Circumstances.

And Studio Ghibli of course. I introduced Paul to Nausicaa, who according to the entertaining podcast introduced it to Graham, so in an incredibly indirect way I take credit for this video...
