Wow, that all sucks. Too bad the mics sucked, cuz it REALLY affected the podcast.
Good luck with classes Jer. I think I may be doing a home study chem course this summer to help expedite my trip to graduation.
As for the AskLRR, do you guys plan on redoing the questions that you couldn't record? I counted like 2 or 3 that made the cut.

First, I wept bitter tears to find that Matt is once again far too quiet. And not only that, but largely removed due to distortion! More's the pity. ;_;
Second, I gotta actually disagree with you guys on Linux. I will agree that I'm something of a Linux fanatic, so I will try to separate my passion from my logic here. You guys are actually quite wrong about who uses Linux.
My girlfriend, for example--without any help from me or anybody else with experience--switched from windows to linux a little over a year ago and had no problem at all adapting. And while my girlfriend is quiet intelligent, she is certainly not a programmer or anything like that.
I concede that a lot of the problems you addressed ARE problems, but on this point at least I must assert that you are mistaken.
Furthermore, not to presume anything about your experience with Linux, but video tools, such as editing and what have you, are easily the area in which Linux needs the most improvement. It's also an area that most computer users never really deal with much.

I find it somewhat ironic that the opening is "sorry for the audio problems, we've fixed them" and then about half-way through Graham cuts in as an Editor alert to say there are even worse audio problems
So yeah, we haven't had a half-hour podcast for ages...I'm not really sure what to say since most of it was "What are we playing now". Possibly better than a quarter of it being "What apples do we like?"

It's as if they got the SingStar mics to stop punching them in the face by making them kick them in the balls.
How bad was the cut audio? Unhearable-bad, or just "we don't want to release inferior product" bad?
If it is at least somewhat intelligible, could you post up an uncut version for the sake of the wiki? Because, you know, the LRRcast section of the wiki is doing so well (not that I've been helping in any way, mind you).

The really crackly voice that I have in part of it was the low-end of bad.
The upper end was SUPER crackly, and echoed half a second later. It sounded like two broken, out-of-sync radios, yelling at each other in moonspeak.

I wouldn't have minded the podcast with the static.
Also have you tried Rock Band mics? I know they're really similar, but I haven't had a problem with it yet.

Low quality Youtube sketches? Amazing!

Yo
Mics: Things suck sometimes, but its worth the effort to find the best way. Out of interest, do you/are you able to record each mic. separately - and thus tweak the balance and maybe fiddle with individual mics.?
Linux: I'm not really an uber computer person or anything - I'm pretty technical but not a programmer. I've been using Linux since January and love it. Sure, some things suck completely, but all in all it does seem to work. And the initial set up was far easier than any Windows install I've ever done.
Anyway, cheers guys, hope you get your mics. working soon
