I still think the inventors video is far more biting than the current one. This video is nice though.

also(!): you may have gotten washington and burned down our crappy capitol, but we'll always have the battle of new orleans. And besides, you all can keep the french! Who's laughing now? heh [is joking of course :) ] Hope you had a good Canada day.

Canadia didn't burn our capitol, the British did, and it doesn't look too bad to me for having been burnt mostly to the ground.

I mean, if you're going to say that the burning of D.C. was a Canadian victory, you may as well say that the destruction of the Twin Towers on 9/11/01 was an Al'Queda victory.

or Pearl Harbor was a Japanese victory.

or the Alamo was... OK, the Alamo was a Mexican victory.

There was a huge kerfuffle over it back around First Draft Iron man.
"Why is kathleen in there twice, and whered she get an apple?"
"Uh, thats kate" essentially.

Awesome video. Now, let me kill the joy.

Some of these may have been said already, but whatever.

I've lived in Ottawa my whole life (I know, us bastard Ontarians... at least I'm not from Toronto, although mind you, I am named Alex... nonetheless), but am a Sabres fan, so I know for a fact that Tim Horton was actually a Buffalo Sabre when the coffeehouse became a reality, and Tim Horton's started in Western New York as a result, before coming north. Certainly, though, it's ingrained itself into our national identity, and only Western New York and Canada has it.

Secondly, Canada HAS had to defend itself on its own soil... The War of 1812 (which lasted from 1812-1814). Granted, the country wasn't officially the "Dominion of Canada" yet, but it was still referred to as Canada by everyone who inhabited it.

Thirdly, I don't just get why we have an International Anthem.

I see two potential options.
Option #1
Option #2

Personally, I'm thinking the second...

Dear God in heaven, it has a music video...

But I too think that with some revamped lyrics would be a good international anthem. And I feel like Graham would choose that over the first option.

I wonder if it's kinda weird that I can sing O Canada by heart. When I live in Claveland, and can barely remember two lines of The Star Spangled Banner?

The Canadian anthem is the only other anthem I know besides the Star Spangled Banner. As a proud quarter Canadian, I say great job!

Has anyone noticed that you never hear all 4 verses to the Canadian national anthem? The first verse, as has been pointed out by our dearly beloved LRR, has many problems. But how many of us can accually even recite (or sing) any of the other 3 verses? I did a you tube search and only found verses 1-3 in the 1908 version, and many versions of verse 1. but nothing else. Why can we not hear all 4 verses. Is it that we are afraid of what may be said? Many countries have more than 1 verse to their national anthem (America has 2 verses), but they also only sing the first verse. Why do we never hear them all? Shoultn't we be proud to hear all of our anthems, and not worry about time constraints? That is the main reason behind the sport leagues shortening of the anthems. What about the rest of us? What are our excuses? Here are the full lyrics to the Canadian anthem:

O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love thou dost in us command.
We see thee rising fair, dear land,
The True North, strong and free;
And stand on guard, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.

Refrain
O Canada! O Canada!
O Canada! We stand on guard for thee.
O Canada! We stand on guard for thee.

O Canada! Where pines and maples grow.
Great prairies spread and lordly rivers flow.
How dear to us thy broad domain,
From East to Western Sea,
Thou land of hope for all who toil!
Thou True North, strong and free!

Refrain
O Canada! O Canada! etc.

O Canada! Beneath thy shining skies
May stalwart sons and gentle maidens rise,
To keep thee steadfast through the years
From East to Western Sea,
Our own beloved native land!
Our True North, strong and free!

Refrain
O Canada! O Canada! etc.

Ruler supreme, who hearest humble prayer,
Hold our dominion within thy loving care;
Help us to find, O God, in thee
A lasting, rich reward,
As waiting for the Better Day,
We ever stand on guard.

Refrain
O Canada! O Canada! etc.

(taken from the Goverment of Canada website)

Any thoughts or answers to my querrys?

Well, the first verse is simple and easy to memorize, not to mention it makes it short, which is good when you have to play it every single day (like in schools and such).

The US National Anthem has the same problem. Except it's not really a problem. The other verses don't really add anything.
God Save the King/Queen had a few verses lopped off due to anti-Scottish sentiment.

Necro because I forgot about the "Home ON Native Land" joke". I lol'd cuz it's true. Even the US set up shop on Natives' land. If only there were more real digs at Canada or others. Like when mentioning that Canad never had to defend itself on its own soil, perhaps a "War of 1812. SUCK IT USA!" would have been appropriate.
