Whoops, a little late with the post here. Oh well.

This was an idea suggested by miakosummin in one of his "idea bombs". We really liked it, and it took us a while, but we got to it in the end.

The idea of gripping swells of music running under Pac-Man was very funny to us. Paul wrote the majority of this one, as a last-minute filler a couple weeks back. But we decided it would be too hard to do in the time allowed, and we wanted to do it right.

Or, as right as you can within the confines of Pac-Man.

There's also a lot of obscure Pac-Man trivia in there, for the obsessive fan. Read more about the characters and their specialized AI (I'm serious) on Pac-Man's Wikipedia entry.

First post! Woot!

Very simplistic, but it worked. Nicely done.

i just laughed my ass off... which is, while being a testimony for the hilarious quality of the video, a bad thing because it is around 4 o'clock in the morning around here and some people (not including me) want to sleep.

By the way, woot to what I think is a gorillaz poster.

It really was quite impressive, I've never seen anything so animated-like on lrr.

I loved the opening too. It just set up the video perfectly. It was very well done. I liked the close-ups on the superpixelated sprites. And the shifting eyes. I thought that Pac-Man might have lasted a little longer, but it works. Too bad Paul wasn't being the head of Evil Corp.

Oh, and there's 36 levels to Pac-Man?? I don't think I ever made it past level 3 :(

36?
There's a possible 255 levels to the original Pac-Man. Level 256 makes everything go pear-shaped.
It was animated mostly in Final Cut, using images captured directly from a ROM of the original Midway version. The "classic" version, if you will.

when the level started I found it hysterical, but then in my opinion it went on for too long. Just the whole anti-climax of "you're the best we've got, go out there and get 'im." to a pacman level was great. But then it went on for too long.

Too long that was until Space Invaders was opened at the whole anti-climax thing started up again. That made it all alright in the end. Without that bit the ending would have sucked [for the reason stated above, it would have gone on for too long].

But as usual, loved it.

Hey, thanks for the honest criticism.
Do you mean that the shot of the Pac-Man level just being played went on too long before Pac-Man died?
I'd agree with that.

Glad people seem to like it!

Yeah. I started pissing myself when it went from daring commando raid to the pacman screen but any longer than when pacman reaches the bottom left hand corner and it just wears off basically.
Though considering that pacman dying is a lead on to the end of the video it may be quite hard to do without taking time. The video would have been fine if it ended then but that would have been MUCH shorter than your other videos so the viewer would feel that they'd have been cheated out of something, so I see the dilemma and in my eyes you get major kudos for dealing with it how effectively you did.

Postby xgollum » 15 Jan 2006, 16:58

forgive the profanity. I'm sure you will.

SHEER FUCKING BRILLIANCE.

Seriously. The A Team intro for the ghosts was sweet ass, and terminating Pac man (with his many aliases) was awesome.

I bow before the brilliance, and as was mentioned earlier, wait with baited breath for the donkey kong version.

Mario, you mission, should you choose to accept it, is to jump over a bunch of barrels and collapse Kong's tower. If you fail, we will disavow all knowledge of your mission.

Maybe you can time it to release simultaneously with MI3.

Very very nice. This was a big hit for me. If anything, it would have been nice to have had it go on longer...instead of simply cutting to an actual run of PacMan for the "final battle," to have actually had dialogue between the ghosts and Pasquale(?)... But that's just me.

Also 'Puck Man' appeared (in the aliases), I know this already (much to my shame) but that was the original name of the small yellow bloke. With a little imagination you can see why it was changed to 'Pac Man', please note the versatility of the P to be made to look like an F.

You are absolutely correct, Rhynome.
The name references are as such:

Puck Man: Original name, changed to avoid creative vandalism.
Hangly Man: Engrish translation of the next name,
Hungry Man: A Japanese release of the game.
Pirahna: A hack of the game that turned Pac-Man into a pirahna, and the ghosts into other fish.
K.C. Munchkin: A Pac-Man ripoff by Atari. Namco successfully sued, and the game was recalled.
Munchman: Another Pac-Man knock-off, but different enough that Namco couldn't sue.
Comecocos: Pac-Man name in Spain.

Yeah, people would change it so it said Fuck Man .(that's not funny of course, of course not *stiffled laughter*).
this was sheer brilliance, and just very very very terrific. I could go on, but I have not the time.

PS: Sorry for not posting much recently (if anyone noticed and/or cared) my life is very busy recently

That would be a bad reason to extend something. I expect the "viewers" would appreciate a short good movie to a long slow one.

Though I actually liked the PacMan level part. There's a couple of close calls, he almost goes for a power pellet, but he doesn't. The ghosts almost get him, but they don't.

I think maybe they could have shortened the part where Paul starts up a new game.
