Yikes, my sympathies Siobhan.

At least you have a number of plows. The running joke in Victoria is we've got one plow. This helps explain why certain roads never seem to get plowed.

At least you have a plow, none of our major streets have been plowed as of 1:30pm PST. It's really odd, the streets have been sanded but the plows aren't out yet.

Seriously? I would think Vancouver would have more plows than us as we're "The Island".

My understanding for order of plowing is emergency roads (ones that lead to hospitals), main roads, everything else not including rural areas.

They have plows and such. I would guess that there isn't that much of a rush to get roads completely clear as there isn't school on Monday and very few people will be rushing downtown to work this week. Not to mention that plow drivers are most likely getting 30 bucks an hour base, then add overtime and graveyard shift work, they're probably getting nearly 80 or 90 bucks an hour for driving in the snow. Yay union work!

Most of them are contracted out, so I can't see how that would be plausible.

It's been snowing since yesterday at about 2 PM. SO FUCKING AWESOME.
Also Siobhan, that picture is completley badass.

I could get used to this. I had to turn on the A/C in my car on the way home from work today. (yes, the winter solstice.)

So, as I understand it, in Canada, you can still wear Ski masks when it gets really cold. I was just thinking the other day how I wish we could do that here in the states. But here, if you put a ski mask on, it doesn't matter HOW cold it is, people will automatically go "oh crap! Robber!"

Fuck it, I'm buying one before my next night shift. This year feels way worse than last year for some reason.

I'm a man of constant scarves. I find if i wear scarves around my face and sunglasses at the same time, i can be warm and mysterious...

I wear my Doctor Who scarf. It's awesome.

I am currently trapped in Vancouver. Very heavy snow.
This also means it's unlikely that my extended family will be flying in today, which also sucks.

A woman... ON THE INTERNET!?112one

I also am a constant wearer of scarves. It's just too cold otherwise. Also, the cloud cover is clearing a bit here, and the sun is striping through the breaks in the clouds onto the snowy trees. It is quite pretty.

Oh wait, it's gone again.

Is Vancouver really *that* bad?

The worst part is that it's only like like a foot of snow and since none of the parents are complaining about road conditions and it's the week of christmas there's no real hurry to clear the roads.

Yeah it's still been snowing here, I think we're almost up to one foot of snow, which is kind of unheard-of around these parts. It's great, but trying to get places is kind of a bitch.

Here in Michigan, my fifteen hour drive to work has become a half hour slidefest. It doesn't help that traffic has increased tenfold due to holiday shoppers.

Oh, right. Sorry.
My fifteen MINUTE drive to work...

There's no way I would drive fifteen hours to stand behind a counter at Gamestop and get bitched at for refusing to sell magazines.

It's been insanely cold here. To the point of -10 at night. There ice on the inside of my windows. The pipes are freezing. There's snow up to my thighs. My brother went out to shovel off the roof and he came in with icicles in his hair. It was ridiculous. But now we can climb on the roof and jump off so no one's complaining.
