Laundry

Postby Graham » 03 Feb 2006, 18:58

Really, what is there to say?

I guess the main focus isn't really laundry, but then that's nothing new.

We like this guy. He's neat.

(woot first post)

well, it was fairly good...I kinda blanked out for the first half, then started actually paying attention at the fighter plane/one shoe part. From there it was great ;)

PS: I liked the bloodstained shirt :D

You should slowly reveal all the dark and twisted secrets that man has.

Really? I only remember dark secrets from this episode; specifically the bloody shirt and the implied 'piano-wiring' of that dude...

Anyway, it has to get darker and more bogus. Like maybe he wakes up beside a dead stripper in Johannesburg and he's apparently missing three of his toes...

What about the "unrelated and uninteresting government business" from the last one?

As intriguing as he is, I'm constantly forced to think that he is a raging compulsive liar.

That could be anything. The character regularly brings up non-sequiturs. It could be exactly that: unrelated and uninteresting.

But that would not follow the laws of comedy!

Insisting that something is completely un-related and un-interesting directly implies the opposite is true, creating irony and therefore comedy.

If it was indeed unrelated and uninteresting, then it wouldn't be funny and would serve no purpose within the comic monologue.

Granted, it also adds to the inherent inconguity of his speech (eg non sequiteurs coupled with ridiculous narrative over a mundane activity.)
However, good comedy often opperates on more than one comic device at a time; it is constructed in layers.

Ergo:
Irony = Funny
Incongruity = Funny
Irony + Incongruity = Very Funny

PS - Great Job, Guys!

I'm gonna be brutally honest here. I love the guy, I really do, and his cameo appearance in the Christmas video brought joy to all. But I'm starting to find the "rambling in front of a bookshelf" bit a little bland. My attention wanders just like, as ryanvdk pointed out, it does during university lectures. He needs a little more spice, more conflict and curiosness. More blood stained t-shirts!

Now, I missed the tiny bit of British accent. Made him a bit more intriguing.

other than that good... I like that the stain was obviously from the wound on his neck.

'As my grandfather and father did before me.'
Lovely cover-up, baby.

I absolutely loved this one, the t-shirt, the random usage of cheese, but most of all, the aircaft. Yes, I'm into aircraft, not wildely, but it seems more so than others... okay I can tell the difference between a Hawker Hurricane and a Supermarine Spitfire XIV (often used for recces, but then found to be very effective at many other roles) from the shape of the wing section from below.

GODDAMIT, BRING BACK THE VULCAN BOMBER! *ahem*... Nice vid.

The neat is that the plane he mentions, the Northrop F-5E Tiger II Fighter jet... actually used by the Kenyan Air Force.

Which we recently discovered: Exists!

Well Kathleen told us you put good research into these peices, so when I heard it in the speech I almost instantly believed it. Of course I never take everything literally (I'm so untrusting *sniffles*) but you said it, in that context, I was liable to believe it.

Now you can start feeding me complete and utter lies, do it subtly at first though.

Very weirdly neat. I love the flow of logic... laundry, leads to desert, leads to the Rolling Stones, etc...

Was it just me, or did Graham have a bit of a cold? You sounded stuffed up...
