Suggest Free Stuff To Do Online
Well folks, I'm a demigod of many talents, but lately my chief entertainment of time-travel is growing stale. Napolean isn't going to get any better at chess, I can't figure out a way to prevent Christianity from forming despite my best efforts and improvised explosives, and kicking Hitler in the balls repeatedly has lost some of it's charm.
So for a while now I've turned chiefly to the internet for my idle entertainment. The only problem is, I seem to be repeatedly running into what I call "The End of The Internet". I'll check all of my favorite sites, communities, webcomics, blogs, rumormills, and what have you, but after I've absorbed all the updated materials available I find myself lacking much to do. After that point, I can only play so much of Team Fortress 2, Civilization IV, Fallout 3, et cetera, before I grow restless.
"But Alja!", you might be thinking, "If you want more things to do online, why not time-travel forward every time you want new content? When you arrive, it'll already be extant!" Unfortunately, such an option is prohibitively expensive from an energy standpoint. I travel through time only infrequently, with my sojourns into other eras always fairly lengthy in terms of local time. On top of that, I always return to the same chronological point (what you call the "present") out of necessity of a readily predictable variable temporal anchor. Suffice it to say, it is for reasons of efficiency, economy, simplicity, and safety that I do not skip lightly across short chronological gaps.
So, bearing that in mind, what's the hippest, phatest, awesomest, most fun and groovy stuff to do online that you can suggest? Ways to pass the time that are your personal favorites?
Post 'em here, and I'll peruse them at my leisure!
And remember, as a demi-god I am bound by both personal honor and celestial influence to favor those who aid me. Ain't gonna blow up any planets or abort anyone from time for you, but you never know when I might show up in your future (or past) and plant something where I know it will be of use to you.

Re: Suggest Free Stuff To Do Online
I usually browse stuff at weebl-stuff, play on neopets, read Marmaduke Explained, and then there's StumbleUpon... oh stumbleupon.
Edit:OH! And Taste Spotting! I spend hours on that, finding new recipes and stuff. Also Potter Sues(for bad Harry Potter fan fiction); though really most of my time these days are spent on various job boards.

I hate to be market-y, especially since I'm so new here (Been a HUGE fan since Desert Bus 2 But the company I work for produces flash based games that all have a free component. http://artixentertainment.com They've all got much more depth then they look like they would (the 4 main games all receive weekly updates and constant additions) But hey, if it's not your bag, it's not your bag.
Also, Facebook developers PlayFish have some of the most addictive and fun games I've ever played.

That url looks famil... sweet jeebus! Rolith?! THE Rolith?!?
It's been ages! You probably don't know me, I was an old faithful of AdventureQuest way back when you guys were just getting started! I was one of the early Guardians, then naturally I became a Dragonlord. I even mailed in one of the payments because I couldn't manage electronic at the time. Geez, I mean, I played the gorram Alpha when it first leaked! I wrote the Encyclopedia Entrinsicata when DragonFable came out! (Which is still unfinished...)
Oh wow, what a blast from the past! And you're a fellow LRR fan? Does Artix watch? Cysero? They must see the glory of LRR! I bet AE and LRR could do a cross promotion, each boost the other's membership (although AE probably as the larger mass of fans).
...are you guys hiring? Need a writer? I can send you a full resume. I was with Simutronics recently, working as a GM on their upcoming MMO, Hero's Journey. Unfortunately, I lost faith in the project (can't say much on that, NDA and all) and have since parted ways. But I've been hankering for a solid new project to sink my teeth into. Send me a PM, eh?
Ahh, but I'm rambling! I'm gonna go check out what all I've missed in DF. I'm probably at the bottom of the ladder these days! I wonder if Amduseus is still around?
*wanders off chattering to himself happily*
~Alja~
Addendum: And welcome to the fold of the LRRmons! (Silly name, odd story, I'll explain it some time.) Pull up a chair, put up your feet, load up an avatar, have a snickerdoodle or two! And don't feed the Lavos!

Prevent Christianity? That would make me a happy camper.
I, too, have found the "end of the internet" and I can't help.

It wouldn't, actually. You see, in your understanding of history it never would have formed, and you would not have any inkling of it as a concept, and thus could not notice it's absence, and thus you could not be happy about it.
Also, you probably can help, even if you think you can't. Just put something out there. What are some of your favorite web activities? Favorite webcomics I might not have been exposed to? Favorite flash games, favorite forums, favorite whatever.

Re: Suggest Free Stuff To Do Online
I tend to spend the vast majority of my net time reading on esoteric topics. They're usually related (however tangentially) to something I'm working on or thinking about.
As far as webcomics go - it's very likely you've seen all of these - but off the top of my head some of my favourites are:
Dresden Codak
Rice Boy (Completed) & Order of Tales (Ongoing)
Inverloch (Completed) & The Phoenix Requiem (Ongoing)
Lackadaisy
Dr. McNinja
Fey Winds
Jump Leads
Minus (Completed)
Pretty much anything by KC Green.
There are many I've enjoyed which have simply stopped updating (like The Perry Bible Fellowship )...
This is the first forum I've been on in years, actually.

Vampire Pirates, from Canada: http://vampirates.comicgenesis.com/archives.html
Irregular Webcomic and Darths and Droids, obviously.
Reallifecomics.com has some good stuff if you dig through the archives.

On the topic of removing stuff from history, I would like to do something similar to the vocoder. Now, I wouldn't want to remove it's existence, but merely all *mentions* of it ever existing. Thus, historians far in the future viewing our music videos would surmise that the fearsome High-Pitched Voice Disease ran rampant during the turn of the new millennium.

I, too, have been slouching around at "The End of the Internet" for a while - there's one little 'timewaster' that a forum acquaintance introduced me to - My Brute - for 'neopet-esque' amusement. Very very random - levelling and even matches have virtually no input from you - so it's almost like following a sports team. You spit and growl in frustration as your chosen combatant does something REALLY STUPID (why would you throw the sword you just drew, when your opponent is still at full health?), eventually cheering with triumph as your chosen pulls off an impressive win, or giggle with evil thoughts when a level up gives a cool ability or new weapon, or even watch a cool fight over and over again since it's a cool fight, win or lose.
But then, it may not be your cup of tea. Just puttin' it out there...

Speaking of which, there's a thread over in the games' section with all of us forumites' brute names, if you want to go over and check.
*Flexes favorites folder*
Perfect World:It's sort of like a free WoW clone, except there's not as much to do (or so my Wow-playing friend tells me).
Platinum Grit:: One of the weirdest and funniest webcomics I've come across.
Fantastic Fiction: Incredibly complete database of novels, authors, and upcoming book releases.
Adventure Game Studio: It's the site for a game-making engine, but there's an incredible selection of point-and-click games made with it up on the site for download.
Nodwick: Good comics AND a weekly links section.

And now, I respond!
~Alja~
- weebl-stuff - Long time viewer, feel he's kinda lost his touch these days.
- neopets - Not my cuppa tea.
- Marmaduke Explained - Nor this either.
- StumbleUpon - Heard good things, haven't found the time to really check it out.
- Taste Spotting - I don't cook like at all lately, but when I'm outta college this will be useful so it's been bookmarked.
- Potter Sues - I've had my fill of laughter at the expense of bad fan-fiction.
- http://artixentertainment.com - My second post above explains my feelings here.
- optical illusions - These are pretty damn neat, but a lot I have trouble getting to load for some reason. Possibly Flashblock related.
- Dresden Codak - Love the art, not sure on the story and ideology, wish he updated more.
- Rice Boy (Completed) - A fantastic read. Loved it.
- Order of Tales (Ongoing) - Reading this as well, naturally. Eagerly waiting to see how it plays out.
- Inverloch (Completed) Will look at later.
- The Phoenix Requiem (Ongoing) - Probably not my cup of tea, needs further looking.
- Lackadaisy - Had forgotten about this, but another great one. Read up on what I missed. Tracy is a fabulous artist, I enjoyed working under her for a while too.
- Dr. McNinja - Brilliant shit. I wish I had started reading this earlier, but I got into a month ago-ish.
- Fey Winds - Another for later.
- Jump Leads - Unsure, might peruse further.
- Minus - Weird and wonderful, was fun while it went on.
- KC Green - A little too crude for me. Some of his stuff is hilarious though.
- The Perry Bible Fellowship - Not fantastic, but certainly... interesting? There are numerous other similar webcomics of the Far Side Clone variety like it though.
- http://vampirates.comicgenesis.com/archives.html - A friend recommended this before, I can't get into it for some reason.
- http://www.raizap.com/sdamned/index.php - NMCoT.
- http://egscomics.com/ - NMCoT either.
- Perfect World - I tend to avoid free MMOs, with excellent reason, and especially Asian MMOs, with further excellent reason. Tried it recently at the behest of some friends, it failed to surprise me.
- Platinum Grit: - Trudy is demented, wonderful, and a fantastic artist. I'm one of her weirdest fans as well, least on the forums.
- Fantastic Fiction - I've actually fallen out of the habit of reading "literature" any more, and especially fiction. Maybe this will help me get back into that. Bookmarked for later.
- Adventure Game Studio - Neat stuff, bookmarked for later. I love creating, just learning how to use new systems takes time and patience I often lack.
- Nodwick - NMCoT.

New games all the time. Achievements if that's what you're into for a lot of games. And it is free.
