Star Trek
So with Star Trek coming out this thursday, Who is going to see this movie and what do you think about it?
I'm totally going to see it, I love star trek and am a self confessed trekkie( i know way to much star trek trivia)
I do like the concept of this new movie but I am a bit way of prequels( i despise the story of Enterprise) So I am hoping Abrams did this one right.

Re: Star Trek
I think it's a piece of shit, not a huge fan of Star-Trek but it makes me cringe to see the original "Young" crew being replaced by a bunch of puds just so young people will like it.

I don't think I'll like it, but I'll go see it.
I do have a few nitpicks however.

Ya know that scene in Robocop, where the guy melts? Her juices will do that to your junk.

I will see it. I try not to have any expectations, everyone says it's going to be lame, I figure I'll just wait and see.
It does look like it will have some nice shiny special effects at least. haha.

Re: Star Trek
I prefer DS9. I thought it had the best character development.

Re: Star Trek
You'd be hard pressed to find a bigger Trek fan amongst the Crew, and I'm super excited for this movie.
It looks like the kick-in-the-ass the franchise needs, and I'm optimistic. Also, it's been receiving nearly universally great reviews, from critics and Trek fans alike.
So, yeah. Optimistic.
Also, with only 18 reviews in so far, it's got 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I am soooo excited for this movie. Love love love Star Trek, and like Graham said, this could be the kick-in-the-ass it needs.
I'm a Next Gen. person myself: I grew up watching it! Also, my dad knew Data before he was Data, so I feel some kind of odd loyalty to it.
And Picard kicks ass.

Re: Star Trek
Grew up with TNG, caught a bit of Voyager, enjoyed the Enterprise I watched (though due to repeated schedule-shuffling I missed too many to follow it properly). Furthermore, I am a massive fan of Abrams, having thoroughly enjoyed Alias, and to a lesser extent Lost and MI3. This, combined with the trailers and posters (I find I can often get a better gauge of whether I will like a film from the poster, it's also harder to play the entire film during the movie poster) I am looking forward to seeing it.

Graham I'm interested to find out how much of a die hard fan of Star Trek you are.
I know a guy who is abosultely fanatical about Star Trek and has NEARLY everything that has EVER came out relating to Star Trek and when he saw the trailer to the new movie he freaked out when he saw the Enterprise being built on Earth.
So do you like Star Trek lore or just like the spaceships and pew pew?
I must say I'm looking forward to space ships and pew pew. Plus I want to hear the context of the "FIRE EVERYTHING!" sentance cos I think its going to be a new meme.
It was really too big:

I thought "why are they building the bloody thing on a planetary surface" when i saw it. haha.
Re: Star Trek
The excuse they put forth was that it would need to be built on earth to develope its artificial gravity.

Re: Star Trek
I have heard nothing negative about the film so far - I'll be seeing the first showing I can get to.

Re: Star Trek
ALSO: to anyone pissing themselves about certain things being different (ex. the Enterprise being built on earth), everything I've read so far says they have a plot device in place to explain those differences. They have seperated this new star trek series from the original while staying within the canon.

Re: Star Trek
Red Charlie, I have won Star Trek costume contests. I have autographs from nearly all the main cast of TNG and I saw Shatner and Nimoy on their final convention tour.
I'm a hardcore motherfucker.
But I love the show. I do not love getting my balls in a bunch over it.
I don't give a shit about the ship being built on earth because I'm sure they explain it and also WHO CARES?
They've done far, far stupider things in the actual show.

Totally in agreeance here. The franchise is in a desperate need of a reboot, and this looked like a good push in the right direction. I love Star Trek (of course, not as much as Star Wars ) and I'm really, really looking forward to this movie. I'm completely prepared for it to suck gigantic, floppy donkey dong, though (just in case).
Btw, Graham, do you have pics of your award winning Trek costumes? I'm a costume/cosplay person and love to see what others come up with.

Re: Star Trek
I plan to see the movie but from the previews it just looks like a mindless summer blockbuster with lots of explosions & the Star Trek label slapped on. I'm hoping it was just in the editing as I enjoy most of the movies in the franchise, but with other series that have come back to the screen after many years I've been mostly disappointed. Here's hoping I'm proven wrong.

Apparently, in classic JJ abrams style, this is a character drama set against fantastical sci-fi action setpieces.
pretty much exactly what star trek always has been.
