Duke Nukem Forever officially DONE
Duke Nukem Forever officially DONE
No longer your barrel-rolling monkey.
Re: Duke Nukem Forever officially DONE
Watch them get bought out so someone else can milk the cash cow that will be that game if it ever gets produced.

The joke can never die. Someone will buy the IP so that it can continue to not be made.

Re: Duke Nukem Forever officially DONE
Well That sucks.
Oh well I played Duke Nukem 64 and I loved it.
That's enough Duke to satisfy me.
Its not like I would have bought the game if it were to ever be released.

Re: Duke Nukem Forever officially DONE
This is about as unofficial as it can be. Joystiq has a couple of cryptic emails from Take-Two (DNF's publisher), but there's no official word.
That said, I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Re: Duke Nukem Forever officially DONE
Huh. This kinda bums me out. Not that I ever had any high hopes for DNF, but I was an Apogee fan from way back. At some point in history, they were capable of making some really fun side-scrollers.
Re: Duke Nukem Forever officially DONE
Eh. i expected this game to be nuked.
Tonberry's poked the dutch again.
Re: Duke Nukem Forever officially DONE
Yes, its all very official, except for that bit at the bottom
UPDATE: Deep Silver and Apogee Software have issued the following statement: "Deep Silver and Apogee Software are not affected by the situation at 3D Realms. Development on the Duke Nukem Trilogy is continuing as planned."

I love how these things are never officially announced. It's always "a reliable source" or some webmaster making a comment.
Why can't we get something from a CEO or a president or something.

Because they fear commiting to things like vampires fear sunlight. Real vampires, that is, not pusseys like Cullen.

Between companies being bought out and other ones collapsing and titles being canceled, ect. ect. The pillars crumbled a little.

I never ever played duke nukem, I don't get it, it seems popular. For some reason there is a person in my tf2 clan who calls themselves duke nukem and plays nothing but voiceclips to communicate

Lol.
Does anyone honestly believe that there is still work happening on this game? It's a publicity stunt at this point, IMO.

Re: Duke Nukem Forever officially DONE
Probably not the first to point this out but, if the IP does get purchased or transfered to another company or what not, it could very well put it on track to getting actually done.

Re: Duke Nukem Forever officially DONE
The IP is owned by Take Two, they will assign it to someone else and within the next 12 months a game called Duke Nukem Forever will be released and be generic and people will just point and laugh at it in shop windows.

The world isn't ready for Duke nukem forever.
That game is going to have so much violence, sex, drugs, racism, etc that the world would go nuts if it were ever released.
The game will continue to be developed until the world has matured enough to allow such a game to exist, and be sold at major retailers.

So when you say it's "done" you don't mean that development is completed & it's ready to produce.

Re: Duke Nukem Forever officially DONE
Take 2 doesn't own the Duke Nukem property, 3D Realms still does. What Take 2 owns is the publishing rights for Duke Nukem Forever. This is why 3DR have been able to dick around as long as they have. They're self-funded, on money they made from old stuff and the rights to the Max Payne games. They weren't getting any money from Take 2, and Take 2 couldn't take the project and give it to someone else because they didn't own it. It was rumored a while back that Take 2 actually did try to buy the property from them for however many million $, but 3DR said no. They should have taken the deal, because now their money's run out.
What remains to be seen is whether 3DR will take Duke Nukem to the grave with them, or sell of the property when George Broussard realizes he doesn't want to live on ramen.
But really. 12 fucking years. None of the higher-up people at 3DR are ever getting jobs in the industry ever again.

Re: Duke Nukem Forever officially DONE
Now, maybe it's just me, though I'm sure the thinking behind this will be apparent but: What if this was a good turn?
Imagine if you will, in the twenty years since his last game, Duke's world has been retaken by aliens and oppressed violently for over a decade at least. Duke in this time, for whatever reason, has done nothing to stop them, perhaps finally feeling tired or burned out, and the people of the world hate him for it.
"You're a has-been Duke!" they cry, "Aliens walked right over us and you never lifted a god damn finger!"
Well, we all know Duke has an ego behind him. Eventually chauvinist macho one liners and empty promises start to seem like too much for him. And then maybe, just maybe, he starts getting bugged by everyone thinking him a worthless yellow-haired coward.
He picks up his arsenal, civilians still calling him out on his failures. He lights his cigar, and for the first time in years, dons his trademark shades. Cocking a shotgun, he proclaims "Time to take out the trash."
