Left to their own devices most classes can kill an improperly situated sentry gun. Sentry guns are less about stopping the enemy advance themselves but slowing down and diverting the enemy. Someone trying to kill your sentry? Often this will bring them to the attention of others on your team who will kill the person for you. Well placed sentries are good at preventing scouts from running to areas unmolested but are not going to stop an ubered demoman.

Of course not, they won't stop an ubered anything, that's the whole point of being ubered.

Nah, they can stop an ubered sniper or engineer.
I've created a monstrosity.

I used to play a ton, I used to run a TF2 clan and I think I clocked up 400 hours before resetting my stats, but ever since starting my A levels I haven't had as much time as I would like to play it but usually manage around 6-7 hours a fortnight. And I don't find that there is a twelve year old community, but that is mostly because I mute people who aren't using the voice chat to help team tactics etc.

As you can see, I have three kritzkriegs. Now I realize that while I have three kritzkriegs, some of you out there may actually have a kritzkrieg of your own and be thoroughly enjoying your pickup. But, imagine how I must feel with three kritzkriegs. I think you will find that I am enjoying it three times as much. :)

This is definitely a disadvantage to Valve's new unlock system if you can't shift them to other people at least.

Oh for sure. It's a huge waste of time. In about four hours of play I got only two new unlocks.

Properly placed, yes. The knockback on sentry fire is so ridiculous that if you're running straight at it you may not be able to get anywhere near the thing no matter how invincible you are.

This is one of the many reasons that the top of the stairs in 2fort is the best sentry location ever.

Actually if you're able to get in close enough before you über, you can often melee the thing to death.

And you can use a flamethrower under the stairs to torch the thing without any risk of being shot at. Unless the engineer, normally myself, decides to abandon the sentry and shoot the pyro responsible.

Only? 6 hours of play today alone. Same server. Not a duplicate, not a new weapon, nothing. Nothing at all.

I have enough of the sniper achievements to constitute the first weapon, all the hard way. A few spy achievements that'd be halfway to the first unlock, again, the hard way. With achievements alone, I'd at least be toying with one new weapon. I don't even get that.

Anyone else think the Huntsman is a little bit too overpowered? I seem to be getting one-hit killed as a pyro with that thing, even if it's on the body. What's the drawbacks to it? I've not used the thing myself to really know if the penalties outweigh how powerful it is.

I haven't used it myself, but Huntsman is a lot closer range, so it puts the sniper closer to other things that can kill him. It also has less ammo.

The drawback I think is the closer range necessary compared to the rifle.

The other draw back is the the fact that if you wait long enough, the Sniper's aim gets worse and worse, until he just lets the arrow fly in some random direction.

You can see it playing the bow will start shaking, at that point it is either (a) right click to lower the arrow, or (b) fire it and and load another one.

If it were still achievements I would have about two of the spy unlocks, close to three

I wish it was still achievement-based. I'd have at least one unlock for each class by now. Now I have 4 nataschas, 2 ubersaws and 2 kritzkriegs. Useless. Even when trading comes out.

New system is lame. Now I feel no motivation to get the achievements at all. Don't wanna play for hours on end to pick up random weapons I most likely already have.

Of course having any unlocks at all seems pointless because every time I play and try to change my loadout I get a message saying that the server has been disconnected from steam and I won't be able to change my loadout. What's the go there?

Restart your client. That or steam is actually down at the time. These things happen.

It happened every time I played the last few days, I tried restarting the client. It only happened in various 2fort games as far as I can tell, I played a game on Dustbowl and it was ok.

Just seemed odd.

If you watch the movie 'Jaws' backwards, its a movie about a shark that keeps throwing up people until they have to open a beach.

Achievements still do it, Darkobra. You can get them both ways. There's an unlock with every milestone.

I, for one, don't mind if the achievements aren't the only way to get weapons anymore. I like having them because they give me goals, and I can feel like I'm productive even when I'm dying all the time.

So, now owning and having become totally addicted to this game I must ask, is there a LRR server or a server the LRR'ers frequent? I'm part of the LRR steam group, but I never see any events or anything of the sort.

Yeah, there is now. There wasn't at the time I wrote those posts. I have all the weapons now and can't see the appeal of the Huntsman over the sniper rifle outside of "It's just that damn fun".

No, there's no LRR server yet but there's been plenty of talk of one. Maybe in the future.

LRR clan? There's a tag I would proudly wear.
