People are upset about this?

Its been like over a decade since the game was announced, no progress except one trailer has been made, and people are actually upset that this colossal tease was finally canned?

Meh.
I can't think of a signature.

The constant delaying was actually a marketing gimmick used by the company. The games only been in real development for about 3 years.

We're upset at the apparent death of what has likely being the longest running gag in the history of the internet. We all figured out it was never coming out a long time ago, but it was just so hilarious to hope and keep the dream alive.

In work we have to listen to the drivel that is GAME Live where the presenter knows squat about video games and rates everything as great (I'm going to call him gamespot). From what little gaming news he gives today Take Two are supposed to be suing the devlopers of DN:Forever for the continuous delays. But I don't trust what he says.
