So the revolver, one of my two favourite guns, other being sniper, is being upgraded to have a BEAUTIFUL design and accuracy of a sniper! I wasn't going to whore Spy before but I am now.

I hope it lacks zoom, otherwise there'd really be no point to the sniper anymore.

As long as it lacks headshot instakill and zoom, I think it'll be reasonable.

I feel people are just taking this update more technical then ever. Makes me want to say /ignore to all and just have fun playing the game.

Accuracy, as in bullet spread. I don't think it's going to do extra damage on a headshot, although there might be a funny image.

It's just a fairly regular thing, whenever there's an update we weigh the pros and cons. Valve is a great developer but they're also fairly known for making mistakes.

Generally, each new weapon has some plusses and a drawback to make it fit evenly inside the existing game. The Ubersaw for example, pumps up the Medic's Uber and fires slightly slower than the regular Bonesaw. Natascha slows down targets that are hit, allowing you to hit them more, but deals less damage.

In this case, the Revolver was already a fairly decent weapon. It had decent damage and was pretty accurate at mid-range, often seeing use as the weapon of choice for Spies running from targets after losing their cover.

Now, the Ambassador supposedly has the range of a Sniper Rifle (Which is, essentially, as wide as the entire map with virtually no shot deviation) with increased damage. The trade-off apparently being that it takes a while to shoot again.

Now think for a moment. The Ubersaw requires you to be in melee range of a target with a slightly slower weapon, so you can build your Uber with each hit, bearing in mind you lose all your Uber when you die. Natascha deals less damage but slows the target down.

This is a weapon that allows the Spy to do more damage from further away. Against a Scout or a cloaked Spy, I can see it being less effective because of the reload time, but basically this seems to turn the Spy into a Sniper with cloak and insta-death melee but no insta-death headshot or zoom.

It just doesn't quite seem to balance right.

We have no idea how much the damage dropoff will be, however. Currently a 50 damage revolver shot goes down to 10-7 damage at range. Although it will probably be higher than that, what we're looking at is probably only 20-60 damage every second or so, depending on range. I don't think we're going to see any full health spynper kills cross map.

For the record, I don't think Valve's ruining TF2, I have faith that they know what they're doing. I'm just thinking about how their updates could potentially change how the game is played. And in the end, I don't think this will be a great risk to snipers except in perhaps the most skilled of hands.

It's probably either that it's same damage with headshot crits (unlikely) or more damage with a HUGE cooldown. Personally, I don't use the revolver a lot except in "OH, CRAP" situations. But I'll be using this.

Some people think the entire sniper update is a sham, and that this was all building up for the Spy update. I really doubt it, since the two unlockables sound cool so far.

If the Sniper doesn't get a boomerang as his melee unlock, I will be as saaaad panda.

I never thought about the Boomerang... What would it do? JUST have the throw ability instead of the melee? That'd sure be interesting. But maybe not as useful.

Proper boomerangs don't come back, mate. That's because they're sticking in the rib cage of something that wasn't built to have a bloody great hunk of wood sticking out of it.

It of course just be a turn of phrase. I mean, I don't seriously think if you put wheels on it it would become a cannon.

the fact is this gun is now straight useless at close range, pretty much. And if you weigh in the arguments aganist the razorback where someone could just use a revolver instead, that negates that

Valve has certainly thought this through, it's all making sense now.....


And yeah, I'm positive that we're getting the sniper update too. Since you have the razorback crate in the Meet the Spy video, and you need to give them something to offset the fact that everybody's going spy. By releasing both at once you keep things even.
