Borderlands looks delicious. Never before has a a trailer made me pull a face normally only seen in freeze frames from really, really weird porn.

Re: Borderlands
I've been looking forward to Borderlands since the first time I heard about it in early '08. I love the art style they came up with, and pretty quickly too. They didn't even have it like 8 months ago.
Four-player co-op, 650,000 guns, post-apocalyptic-esque wasteland planet and it's an RPG shooter.
Anyway, I'm really looking forward to it.

Re: Borderlands
So this is what Gearbox has being up to. Haven't frequented them for five years now (and I was just shy of 1000 posts too).
Me likey, I'll check it out.

Re: Borderlands
I believe they released Hell's Highway last year.
Also, they have like 5 new projects running right now. Borderlands, Alien: Colonial Marines, something that might be called War Hero, and 3 other mystery projects(one is probably the War Hero one).
I've been trying to get hired there, since they're local, but I need to work more at it.

Re: Borderlands
First time i heard of borderlands was nearer to 2006 in an edition of GI. I've been stoked about it since and when i saw the new artistry i couldn't believe what they had done to it! The old gameplay pics i had seen looked so drab in comparison to the new work they've done.i really think its going to be one of the best titles out this year, up there with Dragon Age Origins, and Mass Effect 2.

Re: Borderlands
I'm pretty sure it was announced in August of 07. Since the GI issue was the Sept. 2007 issue. That and I can't find any info on it dated before then.

Re: Borderlands
I donno what I think about it. Some bits sound kinda cool.. Other's sound really old hat and kinda boring.
From what I understand the character designs are preset to look a certain way. Which I, personally, don't think fits in a modern day WRPG. Especially since it appears that you're nameless and have little back story.
Enemy levels are static. They don't scale in difficulty or gain new weapons/abilities as you level like in Fall Out 3 or some other games.
The procedurally generated gun system sounds pretty cool, but look at Spore. Everything ends up kinda looking or feeling the same with systems like that.
While the game play and art style looks great, I am tentative to be excited about the game.

Re: Borderlands
Each character has a name and a backstory.
Mordecai
Mordecai came to Pandora in search of a man from his past named Demosthenes. Upon learning that Demosthenes has died, Mordecai sets off to learn how he died and what he was carrying. Mordecai's play style is that of a lone ranger, preferring to snipe enemies from afar. Some of his special abilities can augment the party's damage from headshots or give accuracy boosts and is a hunter class. Later in the game, he will befriend a bird-like creature named Bloodwing that will assist in combat.
Roland
Roland is a former soldier of the Crimson Lance, a sort of highly trained private military that disregards law and order. A decade-old vendetta is rekindled when Roland learns that the leader of the Brigadiers has a suspiciously similar name to a man he has sworn to kill. Some of Roland's abilities are meant to supplement and support the party. His Leadership skill can boost the party's experience gains, while his Medical skill will increase health regeneration, and Support will increase weapon damage or regenerate ammunition for the party, Roland is a soldier class and the only class that doesn't have to worry about ammo as a special backpack produces an infinite supply.
Lilith
Once a human, Lilith at one point was turned into a siren. One of only six Sirens, they are a group of people with unbelievable powers, but no way to control them. She comes to Pandora in search of another Siren, in an effort to find out more about herself. Lilith is essentially the mage of the group, using her Siren powers to support the group and attack the enemy. Some of her powers include the ability to increase the group's rate of fire, as well as the power to create temporal bubbles, which she can manipulate to slow down enemies and hostile projectiles or speed up allies.
Brick(not much is revealed about his backstory)
A massive specimen of a man who likes to use his fists to smash the enemy above all else. He wears a necklace adorned with the paw of his beloved deceased dog. He fills in the tank niche and can take quite a beating as well having the ability to chug berserker-state inducing pills for short bursts of power.
I don't think the guns will be anything like Spore. The guns are all generated with different abilities, buffs, ammo types and whatnot. It much more like Diablo than Spore.
The character designs can also have customized color schemes I believe. And I'm pretty sure enemies scale. I know they get harder further into the game, but previous areas don't suddenly get harder because your a few levels higher then you were last time.
