Forget About It

Postby Graham » 10 Aug 2009, 16:13

And that's how easy it is, kids. Just send us a script that makes us giggle, and away we go!

Also, props to Ben for possibly his largest speaking role to date. Maybe? I'm probably wrong about that.

That was intentional. It's a characterization thing. It maaaaay not have worked.

It's like the shirt a few videos back: it's not bad, it's just distracting to the point where some of the thread is lost.

Yeah, that extra-britishy accent weirded me out for a second. It was very entertaining, though xD
Funny video, Paul did really well in getting more and more angry with everyone. Props to Ben, indeed.

EDIT: Oh yeah, the ending was totally unexpected as well. Funny stuff, nice work LRR!

Brilliant. Props to Genghis for the writing.

Inversely. Graham, while I love the British accent thing...It annoys me simply because you weren't in accent ALL the time.

Like Ben wasn't prewipe, but was after. You said "Who are you!" the second time accentless, and a few other times it faded in and out.

I'm sorry for nitpicking, but I do it because I care.

"England Graham" might not have worked, but the hilarity of the video did :D

At first, I thought this was a follow-up to Killer Instinct, but the accent totally killed that thought.

Not like that's a bad thing.

Regarding the accent: At first, I was thinking to myself, "Graham sounds suspiciously... English." As I got further in the video, I realized that was intentional. To my non-British ear, it sounded consistent. I'm just worried that I was paying more attention to your accent than to the video itself.

As for the video itself, YES. If curiosity killed the cat, then it has surely also mentally maimed hundreds if not thousands of people who just couldn't not know. There are a few things where I have refused to let curiosity get the better of me (e.g. 2girls1cup), but for the most part I am cursed with wanting to know, no matter how damaging that knowledge is.

Am I too picky? I'm not even English, yet to me the accent is all over the place. It doesn't even stay in the same region in England (I used to be able to tell where someone was from from their accent) and then sometimes it goes wildly into CANADA, so I mean...I loved the video, and I thought the acting was fantastic, just the accents didn't seem constant...

The character was raised in Canada by Australian parents?
Let's go with that.

In future I'll make the accent less subtle, because I think that's where the inconsistencies are coming in.

Yet another great video.
I thought the accent worked pretty well. It did kinda come and go though.
Though I look forwards to more English Graham nonetheless.

I'll say that I liked the subtle accent.

I also don't want to laugh too hard at a script you guys didn't write, but this one was awesome. Very well done, and ZOMG BEN and he's not wearing a skull mask!

I also feel less silly about sending a script back a week or so...

Also... shot at Paul's place?

I had thought before about how the people in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind would deal with such situations...

Haha, that was hilarious! Loved the accent there, Graham. The camera work is getting better each video, nice.

The download link doesn't seem to work, neither does Quicktime. :( I was also wondering if its available to download in HD? (not sure if it was) I love adding to my favorite LRR collections in my iTunez. :P

A+ in writing, acting, and camera style. I enjoyed all the camera work you did in this one, it worked really well. Thinking about it, all your camera style lately is pretty spiffy.

C- on the accent.

Graham wrote:In future I'll make the accent less subtle, because I think that's where the inconsistencies are coming in.

This is probably what it was. It's not so much that the accent was bad, but after hearing "Graham" for years, it really threw me off to hear "British Graham," and even more so to hear a "Possibly-More-Genuinely-British-than-I'm-Used-To Graham," a type of British that seemed spotty and fake because I lack the knowledge of the British accent enough to identify the subtleties in your speech.

The problem really compounded for me though, and I suspect other viewers had the same reaction. I think if I already hadn't heard YOU for so long, the accent wouldn't have bothered me at all, but because it was so out of left field and I'm not used to ever hearing an accent on you unless it has some significance or is setting up a joke, I spent the entirety of the video trying to figure out exactly what that significance was (and I suspect there really wasn't any), which overall distracted me from the video itself, which was quite excellent.

In retrospect I should have taken it with a grain of salt and it was just a part of the character, but while watching the video, it seriously threw me off.

I don't want this to discourage you from doing accents or anything, it was just surprising for an accent to suddenly appear in a video where it held no other significance other than characterization.

That was fantastic. I lol'd.

The British accent threw me off at the beginning because it wasn't there, then it was. Bit awkward.

I was going to reference Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind but it seems someone else just barely beat me to it. I would wager that the writer has seen it.

As far as the accent is concerned I actually didn't notice it until the first video-from-the-past. I thought that the Graham outside the TV was going to go "Wait, did I have a British accent before?", but then I noticed that he was talking with the accent as well. It was a bit weird. Great video though.

I first noticed the accent when they played the video, so I briefly thought he had his memory erased so he would forget that he was English.

^ Yes, what he said.

Jester, I took the accent, when it was there, to show that it WASN'T Graham, It was some other bloke. Thus that meant it WASN'T Paul. See? It makes sense. Just too inconsistent...

Its like how in Hanging I knew it wasn't Graham because his collar was popped.
I can put my hands in my head, and I can laugh it in the face.
