Shows You Watched as a Kid

Postby Arius » 04 Sep 2009, 16:02

I was listening to the Geometry Wars 2 podcast and Jer said something that made me realize how much shows aimed at kids have changed. He mentioned King Arthur and the Knights of the Round which sparked my mind into thinking about King Arthur & the Knights of Justice.

I had completely forgotten about that show, it was gloriously cheesy, yet so damned awesome.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNjhbOH8m2U

Seriously, it even has a 90's metal opening.

The links brought Mighty Max and Street Sharks back into my mind.

Seriously, they don't make shows like this anymore. Do you have any nice little nostalgia trips inspired by old cartoons?

I refuse to divulge and/or consider the shows I watched as a kid on the basis that it will make me feel fossilised.

The Dungeons & Dragons cartoon, Dangermouse, the good Sonic the Hedgehog show (Which is the only reason I remember my home phone number), Jackie Chan Adventures, Escaflowne, Eagle Riders, and The Adventures of Blinky Bill, alright?

I'm gonna go see how Big Al the Allosaurus is doing now.

Um. Jackie Chan Adventures was after MY time, thank you. *grumbling* fossilized my ass...

Anyway... Dinosaurs were a big inspiration for tv back in my childhood. Dinosaurs (NOT THE MAMA!) is one classic, but then there is Denver the Last Dinosaur. That show was awesome!

when I was around 0 to 8, I watched mostly TMNT, G I Joe, and Voltron (Prince Lotor.. sooooo dreamy. haha). [EDIT: Oh and stuff like Aeon Flux and MTV's Oddities of course.]
Rocko's Modern Life, etc to about 12. Then I pretty much just watched what was on Toonami and Comedy Central.

I watched a lot of nickelodeon... you know, Pete and Pete, Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude (didn't really like this one, but it was on all the time) and Wild and Crazy Kids.

Also, does anyone remember the shows Welcome Freshman? I remember watching this but no one else I've ever talked to remembers it.

Oh I know that show.
He had some smartassed princess helping him as well.

It was something like "Pirates of Black Waters." I'm pretty sure "Black" and "Waters" were part of the title.

Ah drat I've remembered another one but can't for the life of me remember what it was called.

It was basically about a group of truckers on this rickety old cargo ship that would ferry stuff between worlds with lots of different species under the watchful eye of an evil empire or somesuch. Had like a telekinetic girl or something with tendrils for hands, some wierd small alien pet of somesort, an old mechanic guy, a somewhat portly captain, and a groovy theme tune.

One of the episodes had them unravelling an assassination conspiracy for this race of big aliens that kinda looked like amoebas I think. Another had them trying to find the memories of like the trucker matriarch which included like a massive starmap that they used for trading.

Reeeally bugging me that I can't remember what it was called...

EDIT: THANK THE SHINY METALLIC GODS I'VE FOUND IT!

The show was Malo Korrigan and the Space Tracers, and here's that groovy theme tune (Though when I heard it over here there wasn't the Russian overdub)

Guys, guys.

Heart!

Why has no one mentioned Captain freaking PLANET?

Most of my other shows were already mentioned, or anime, and that's a whole other can of worms.

Also the new He-Man, I got some of that.

Ed, Edd, and Eddy. Rugrats. The Batman, Spiderman, X-Men, and Tom and Jerry.

That's all I got at this exact moment.
I can put my hands in my head, and I can laugh it in the face.

Power Rangers, baby. All the way. Also Wishbone, Reading Rainbow, TMNT, Bill Nye the Science Guy, Full House...pretty much anything on PBS Kids. After I was nine I got satellite TV and discovered Sailor Moon, Ronin Warriors, a whole new generation of Power Rangers and Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog.

I watched a lot of TV.

OH! I forgot The Tick, and Reboot. In another hour I'll remember another 30 more.

I watched a LOT of TV growing up.

Oh, that sonic the hedgehog series with the triplets who played rock instruments, yeah, that one.

James Bond Jr. (anybody else remember this? Wish I had been able to see more episodes)

Tale Spin

Duck Tales

Animaniacs

Pinky and the Brain

Darkwing Duck

Gargoyles

All the comic related shows except Fantastic 4, Hulk, or Iron Man since I didn't get the channel with our shitty antenna.

I probably forgot something

Animaniacs was, and still is, one of the best kids' shows ever.
Tiny Toons, The Raccoons, The Moomins (although i don't remember much of this)... a lot of the shows I watched were BBC broadcast only in the UK, so I'm not sure if anyone would know/remember them.

I will say this though.

Dennis The Menace.

Not the American sap Dennis. I mean the proper, English Dennis. The English Dennis came first and has been around for longer, and CBBC will soon be airing a new "reimagining" cartoon of it. I'm not sure how to take it, but through my sister's Beano collection I have seen the concept art and I'm not entirely impressed, but time will tell.

There was a new Spiderman series done for MTV by the Reboot team I think around the time the first movie came out, but it stopped after just one season.

I actually liked it better than the Fox one

Um...Power Rangers, Invader Zim, Courage the Cowardly dog, Ed, Edd and Eddy and Animaniacs.
Pretty much anything on Toonami or Cartoon Network.
