Re: Wholesale Magic Cards
It's pretty hard to find Magic cards around here but I have a couple decks worth (Nothing really competitive), been quite a while since I played though.

Oh and atleast where I live check out garage sales, my sister has found about 1000 cards, not all at once though, this past summer, with some actually really good ones, for a total of about 10 dollars I think...

Never underestimate the power of Human Stupidity. For if you do know this, while your patience may be limited, their idiocy know no bounds.

Re: Wholesale Magic Cards
My local gaming store sells boxes of 500 semi-random (as in, they remove completely unplayable dreck, but also take out cards they could otherwise sell) commons and uncommons for $10, and will give out small amounts of basic land (enough to build a monocolored deck of each color) for free.
This doesn't directly help you, but a local store may do something similar.

Re: Wholesale Magic Cards
I stopped playing shortly after Mirage was released. This was due mainly to the fact that the friend who was the central Magic hub moved out of town & the rest of us sort of lost direction. I remember it fondly tho' & still have all my cards, including a dozen or so ready-to-go decks for different situations.
The game made for some interesting terminology.
"Have you played against the new girl yet?"
"Not yet, but I'd sure like to Twiddle her Rack."

Re: Wholesale Magic Cards
Personally, I don't play as often as I'd like since the Magic players in my area seem to consist nigh-uniformly of Serious Business players who won't give someone as dedicated as/who has as much disposable income as them the time of day.
I do visit the multiplayer tables in Magic Online occasionally, but it's not the same as being around a table of people you can actually see.

Re: Wholesale Magic Cards
I still have the last deck I used bouncing around somewhere, but that was years ago (I stopped soon after they changed the card design) when the people I played with moved away. I used to have close to a thousand cards lying around, but now I doubt I could find a hundred.

So we just address it "James from LoadingReadyRun, Victoria, B.C." and hope the post office figures out the rest, then?

I think Morgan's renewed interest could have to do with one of his birthday presents.

Re: Wholesale Magic Cards
So what's the goal of getting back into Magic? Drafting? Is it a matter of finding some casual decks to play with friends? How long have they been playing? When did you last play? There have been quite a few changes and I try to keep up so I can play in the occasional pre-release, but it's pretty much gone by me at this point (have someone try to explain Planeswalkers to you....). Prepare for a steep learning curve if you haven't played since Invasion block.
Most importantly, there's been a huge shift in the color pie, as MaRo likes to call it. Traditional effects have moved around and bleed into others, Disenchant, for instance is now green (Naturalize). You'll also find that creatures are viable and "traditional" control is less so (Counterspell now costs 3 mana). If you were a Denial Blue player and just liked saying "No" a lot, getting back into Magic now isn't a very good move.
You're probably too young to remember pre-6th edition rules, but to all that is holy and good, if you go that far back and don't know what The Stack is, it's probably not worth the journey.
I have a bunch of cards, but they're almost all around Invasion block.

I just boxed mine up while moving not that long ago. Haven't played in years, but it was hella fun.

Anecdote: It took me about five posts into this thread before I realised you guys weren't actually talking about Tarot cards. I was saddened.
What? I didn't say it was a good anecdote.

Re: Wholesale Magic Cards
I haven't played in 6 or 7 years, but I'm sure I still have 5000 or so cards in a box somewhere. I kind of miss the game now that I think about it, but not the insane amounts of money I spent on it.
Re: Wholesale Magic Cards
Yah to be honest i don't think I have played since... well it's been a while.
I was reading up on it and it seems to be no longer the game I played and loved. I first started playing magic in the mid 90's. In fact I got a starter deck of 2nd edition just weeks after it first was released so that was (goes to check wikipedia) Ugh. It came out in December of 1993, I am pretty sure I picked it up Jan/Feb of 94. I would have been 11.
