Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Escapist = Success
Realistically, anyone who makes a jump from the Escapist forums to ours, is most likely someone who will be like us, as they have a similar interest in LRR.
I truly doubt, we'll get some of the random douches from the Escapist forums. You have to remember that our forum is all LRR pretty much. The Escapist forums is full of a much more varied group of people. People who may be there for Doomsday Arcade, or ZP, or whatever.
Everyone here is for LRR. And if someone moves over here from there, they'll also be here for LRR.

I live in Colorado, been watching Lrr for a long time just never forum'd.
I have issues with the player too. Must be a "Colorado thing."

You greatly underestimate the power of the douche Ghengis, I mean jesus Kevin smith charges people to be on his forums and people still go on there to bitch at him.
rolls will go to great lengths to complain.

I just don't think we will get an obscene influx of douchery. At least not with any kind of staying power.
Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Escapist = Success
LRR still holds full power over these forums. Douchebaggery will be no more welcome then than it is now. I'm not worried about it spilling over into our little utopia. I just don't feel compelled to join the escapist community in the same way as I do here.
Even with Unskippable and ENN, I tend to enjoy the video and move on. I sometimes get the urge to post a comment, but usually just end up coming back here to talk about it.

Yeah, I don't even have a Escapist account and I doubt I ever will.
There, and with a lot of other websites, you make comments on videos. Here you can have discussions. Some posts may still be single one-off comments, but there is lot more real discussing going on.

Ah well. Fingers crossed and lets see what happens I guess. It kinda sounds like the LRR crew still aren't 100% sure of how its going to be post-January move themselves.
Nothing to see here.
Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Escapist = Success
my only gripe is that I'll change my DNS settings every time I want to see LRR videos as well as anything on Escapist. I still don't understand why but the only way I get to the escapist site by using setting a manual DNS address.

Except THIS way, Escapist forumites are far MORE likely to stay where they are - rather than coming here to watch "more stuff from those Unskippable guys".
not that all of us... Err, I mean "those escapist kids" are bad guys and gals. Some of "them" I imagine, just like the funny and want to help out with good mannered absurdism. One would assume.

No.
They want us because we are who we are and we make what we make.
They're trying to branch out, and we're part of that. We'll keep doing the same mix of straight-up sketch comedy to gaming content as we always have.
yeah, I mean they did just let Yahtzee review Washington, DC, I think they're pretty open cats.

I won't ever make an account over there, simply because I'd get into a fight with some Escapist fan guy over something.
Now I have this amazingly funny image in my head of a couple of the LRR crew standing off to the side all, "Damnit, is that one of our kids? >=/" xD!

It's cool Evil Jim.
Anyway after thinking about it some more I've come to the conclusion that well, I still feel pretty uneasy about this. This deal can go so well for them and badly for us which would make it bad for them, they can get screwed over, which screws us over OR it can go so awesome for everyone. Problem is I think there will be problems.
Big companies say the creative people can do their own thing but they rarely really can.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Escapist = Success
I would imagine a SIGNIFICANT minority of people who visit The Escapist and watch the shows there actually post on its forum

I understand your fear on this, but hopefully watching ENN and Unskippable will give you an idea of the creative freedom we have with the Escapist. We've always gotten a great feel from them and had a great relationship with them, and we don't foresee any "creative control" problems.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Escapist = Success
Well the best hope for avoiding that is that the crew is probaby the most efficient and creative on the escapist now, that's 3 video series I. Less than a year. Sort of like trying to bench your star athlete
not saying everyone else sucks over there, just that the crew make a LOT of stuff.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Escapist = Success
From what I've heard, I think pretty much the only "creative control" that would be imposed is that LRR can't become a hardcore porn site. At least, their regular weekly videos can't.

I'm really excited for you guys! I'm glad you're going to keep the site. I was scared you weren't when I heard! None the less I'm sure the video's will still be fantastic and I'm really happy that you're getting paid for the wonderful, hi-larious, and awesome work you put out for us every week. This combined with the high standards you have and all the other projects you do I really think you deserve to be appreciated! Congrats!

Re: BREAKING NEWS: LRR + The Escapist = Success
I'm answering stuff from several posts ago.
Shamus Young gets linked back to his website in his comics, and Yahtzee in his videos, so I don't see The Escapist wouldn't link you guys back here.
TH Escapist has some non-gaming related video series like Drawn by Pain and (I think) Apocalypse Lane. Some of their articles aren't gaming, but I think LRR would be the most versatile since there is no storyline video to video.

That's alright, they'll just have to limit porn to the extras. I think we can handle it.

As long as the videos retain the same high quality and they appear every week I have no fear. If LRR can turn a profit off their hard work and talent more power to them.

Only slightly naughty nuns allowed.
Nuns soaking in brine are STRICTLY forbidden.

Congrats guys.
Really.
You guys are the success story I needed to fuel my motivation for balancing jobs and doing this kind of thing on the side.
God, carry on soldiers. Carry on.

It's actually written into the contract that we have complete creative control.
Go watch the ZP review of 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand.
They ran that.
It's awesome, but would any other site have let that fly?
