The Most Thorough Evisceration of The Phantom Menace Ever:
link
Even if you don't give two shits about Star Wars (I know that I don't), this is a little over an hour's worth of a guy picking apart every single thing wrong with this movie, and you can tell he works hard so that he doesn't retread old ground; He doesn't talk about how stupid Jar-Jar is, he keeps his disdain for the idea of midichlorians to a minimum, etc. etc. Everything he points out is something you can slap your forehead over, saying "Holy shit, that's true!"
He also has reviews of Star Trek movies, if you'd care to watch them as well.

Re: The Most Thorough Evisceration of The Phantom Menace Ever:
I watched the first video. The voice really, reeeeally turned me off. I came this close to turning off the video at least twice because of it. But the review is very well written & thoughtfully presented. Despite the strange accent in the narration I quite enjoyed what I've seen so far & look forward to watching the rest when I have better bandwidth access. Thanks for the link. I know some would say it should be in the YouTube thread but the conversations that the subject matter will likely raise warrant its appropriateness here.

Re: The Most Thorough Evisceration of The Phantom Menace Ever:
Yeah, I find the voice irritating too.
Also, I disagree a bit. Maybe I've rationalized a lot, but I stopped listening when I heard his issues (first three points) and thought "man...I can kind of agree...but mostly...no."
Why would a Trade Federation want to be taxed? Thus, they went on strike. Them striking involves BLOCKING TRADE (go figure).
I can see the lack of protagonist, but that doesn't make Qui-Gon or Obi-Wan uninteresting. Mind you, I've read a non-canon book series about them before the movies. So I feel I know them. Damn.
And the bit about the opening of the first movie? My thoughts were literally "Woah. I didn't realize it was that deep..." so it didn't do a good job of telling me everything that was going on like he claimed.

well thought out and funny BUT the patronizing false stupidity and really irritating voice killed it for me. Couldn't watch past the first vid.

Re: The Most Thorough Evisceration of The Phantom Menace Ever:
I've seen a LOT of different types of online series that would have been amazing, but were ruined by how damn annoying the guy's voice was.
I mean, I get that they can't exactly help what their voice sounds like, but why would you get into a hobby where people are focusing on listening to you, when you're painful to listen to?
That said, I haven't actually listened to the posted video yet, I'm just going by the general consensus that seems to be that the guy could grate cheese with his voice.

I'm pretty sure the voice is intentionally that way.

Yeah, the guy is putting on an "annoying basement-dwelling nerd" voice. It was annoying to me, too, but you get used to it after awhile.
Re: The Most Thorough Evisceration of The Phantom Menace Ever:
his non-sequiturs are fucking hilarious, Like telling you exactly the right kind of raid to use to suffocate a hooker escaping through your basement crawlspace.

the voice really annoyed me, but what made me turn it off was his inability to pronounce protagonist...

That was intentional I think.
I wonder if the Nostalgia critic has seen this.

Actually...I like the very end of that one...when he pulled the thing with George Lucas going on about how "A special effect without a story is boring."
I lolled there.

I continue to disagree with some of his points, and get irked by his voice and his random breaks from review.
"What does 'bring balance to the force' mean?" he says.
Well, obviously they aren't going to explain that. Cuz it's foreshadowing.

Re: The Most Thorough Evisceration of The Phantom Menace Ever:
It makes sense in a narrative context. In the context of a conversation it doesn't make any sense. Why would you be unnecessarily vague to the person you are cautioning about that sort of thing? It's stupid.

I definitely gotta set some bandwidth aside to watch all of this, especially now that The Clone War is out.

Re: The Most Thorough Evisceration of The Phantom Menace Ever:
He seems to revert to his normal voice a bit as it goes on. Very subtle, but you can tell. He also gets more frustrated as well.
Ending is awesome.
Also, check out his other stuff, including Avatar. He points out some stuff you may not have noticed (but your brain did.)

One of them probe droids, like the one used in New hope when they're about to torture Leia.
