Loading Ready Bake...

Postby TheRocket » 22 Dec 2009, 14:12

So we have had plently of cooking topics in the past - and think it's cool that we have a Loading Ready Cook thread started up again. This being the season of baked goods and nummy nummy food, I figured we could also have a baking thread. So I made this thread before Tak and I get too carried away drooooling over Christmas nom noms in other peoples topics ;)

What are your favorite Christmas goodies/recipies? Did you make an epic batch this year? Post pics!

I will be making a batch of whipped shortbread tomorrow, as well as kourabiedes.

To kick off the season earlier on in Dec, I made a batch of deli style chocolate chip cookies from scratch.

Image

These were brownies that I made the other day for a Christmas party:

I also made festive cuppin'cakes, and my moms super awesome treat of EPIC doom. (I don't know what they are called but my mouth goes to happy place when I eat them)

I don't have those pics uploaded yet, but I will leave you with a photo of he who guards the gifts....

Merry Christmas, Dempass! =D

Yes, I have a very good tip. Easy Bake Oven. It love you long time.

Joking.. If you want to start baking some Christmas goodies, I'd suggest starting with some simple cookies. Ginger snaps/molassas cookies are tasty and easy and very christmassy. Nothing like cookies and nog. Other then that, if you want to go really easy you can always pick up a box red velvet mix, and make cupcakes! Red = ho ho ho.

Once you find/pick a recipie, try and find tips on that particular dough. Whether or not it will have adverse effects when you over mix, or if you don't chill etc.

It was just an apple pie I cut a LRR logo pattern into, and gave to the crew on the Sunday of Desert Bus.

... Seriously, though, it was a really good pie.

I had a pretty interesting chocolate chip cookie recipe.

But now my sister is egg-lactose-soy-intolerant, so I must seek new and exotic pastry recipes. Have ye any, fellow Lurrites?

I did some baking over the weekend actually. I created my own recipe of a little something I like to call Man Cookies. There are 2 requirements for Man Cookies: 1) Meat 2) Nuts. They are basically chocolate chip cookies but the chocolate chips are substituted for the manly secret ingredient. So basically put whatever you want in there as long as it meets the 2 requirements. I used Salami, Bacon, and Almonds. I also threw in some Taco Seasoning for a little extra zing. I thought they tasted pretty good. Not everyone shared my enthusiasm though, one guy looked like he was going to throw up (clearly he wasn't manly enough to handle these cookies). Overall they received positive reviews at least if you consider "Not as bad as I was expecting." a positive review. They won the award of the day for Most Creative Cookie so I was pleased. Here's a picture of the pre-cooked product:

Those look really good. There are actually a LOT of pastries that revolve around meats and obscure ingredients. I remember drooling over a bacono/maple cupcake. I'm not sure how I would feel about the taco seasoning in a cookie, but maybe if you candied the bacon and meats in maple before hand, then added a bit of salt for zing? Salt and sugar are alway num num.

I'm not really a cooking person, but I made some french toast today. Never knew they were called that way in english, though. We call 'em "Wentelteefjes" in Dutch, which loosely translates into "Flipped Bitches"...

Here's what they looked like all baked. They were kind of crumbly so I'm thinking there may have been a little too much flour and not enough butter. I also should have maybe melted some of the butter first. Meanwhile some people really like crumbly, I'm more of a chewy person myself.

Thanks. Yeah, I knew taco seasoning was a bad idea to begin with but I really wanted my cookies to have a 'distinctive' flavour. I'm thinking it was either that or the taste of salami that turned off the people who weren't fans. So I think if I tried again I'd go without the seasoning and see how it turns out. Other people were making shortbreads and macaroons, check these out:

Not something I can compete with, so I decided to go in a completely different direction and see how far I could take it. Try and stretch their definition of cookie while still making something edible. Anyway, yeah that maple idea sounds really good, thanks, I think I'll have to try that.

Shoybun, ...Flipped Bitches? If you mean pancakes, I'm never calling them pancakes again.

As for your shipment, they are here for you to pick up anytime, though they are going fast.

I made some puppy chow today. It didn't turn out like I had remembered it... but I still ate way too much.

Unfortunatly, the butter/marg mix up cost me being able to make the Kourabiedes and the whipped shortbread for Wraiths bosses. Now everyone is on "work from home for the holidays" mode. Maybe I will still make them when we get together with his family.. but I don't know that they like much sweets so I don't want it all to go to waste.

I am planning on making a holiday banana loaf in a cute festive min ipan that I got. :)

Tak, I'm not sure I'll be able to make it before all those nummers disappear. /SADFAIC/
