I've Got Christmas Money to Spend - What Anime To Use It On?

Postby Elomin Sha » 27 Dec 2009, 11:08

I will be buying a LRR Shirt.
I haven't had a good of Anime series to watch since Gundam 00, Pani Poni Dash and Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex and its Solid State Society film.

I'm going for Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, what others should I go far. I'm currently umming and ahhing over Gunslinger Girl. Can anyone suggest anything else? Any Gundams beside 00, Seed, Destiny and Wing? Thanks.

G Gundam?

No man is truly a man unless he watches Ouran High Host Club, one of my damned favourites (and short, only one season, so), but it is about a bunch of male escorts at aw rich private school. It is a little...womanly...but so awesome.

I also am a huge fan of Rurouni Kenshin, about an ex-samurai in a peaceful era of japan.
I can put my hands in my head, and I can laugh it in the face.

Gunslinger Girl's pretty decent, if a bit slow.

I heartily recommend Cowboy Bebop, though.

Don't spend it on that, spend it on this:

Seriously, though, if you don't own FLCL, go buy it. You're going to watch it a thousand times anyways.

On the Gundam front, I recommend 0080 : War in The Pocket, 0083 Stardust Memory, and The 08th MS Team.

But if you wait until February I think, part 1 of the Gundam Unicorn OVA will be released. And correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it's to be an international release as well.

But if your interested in other Giant Robot series, I can always recommend New Getter Robo.

Cowboy Bebop, Rurouni Kenshin and Samurai Champloo are my favorite animes so I suggest those.

FLCL is one on my list. I've got a few Studio Ghibli films, I'm not buying Grave of the Fireflies because after I rented it, I was ruined for a long time.
I like things that are bizarre and mechas.

Full Metal Panic was quite enjoyable. It's a bit like Gundam a little comedy to it.

If you like Bizzarre, try FLCL or Excel Saga (and it's sequal, Puni Puni Poemi).
I also add a voice to those suggesting Cowboy Bebop.

You... You are aware of how many episodes of Bleach there are, right?

Also, as far as Rurouni Kenshin, seriously, go for the manga. They slaughtered the anime compared to the manga.

I'm a fan of kenshin, but it's a little long and expensive.

I'd suggest samurai 7. It's based off of an old movie, 7 samurai. Excellent quality, easy to find, not too expensive.
Zone of the enders is a really good mech anime, and the full series doesn't cost too much.
Full metal alchemist - Easy to find, and not too expensive.
Magic knight rayearth - One of my favorites. Hard to find a physical copy of, though they're re-releasing remastered dvd season 1 Jan 26 2010. So that's something to consider.

I'm just going off the top of my head here. I should go through my collection and find some good ones as well

If you start taking recommendations for films and non-anime shows, give me a call.

Otherwise, I watched Ranma 1/2 when I was a kid, and saw Evangelion once. Oh, and this one where the lead member of a metal group was humping the Tokyo Tower. That was weird.

Hmm.. I can't really remember which was the last anime I viewed.. Either the New FMA or something small.
Anyhoo, I was pleasantly blown away by Death Note. It's a popular one, but I thought it was really good, they sticked to the manga, and where they added something, it actually made it better. Messes with your head a little too.

REasons I want anime I've been watching SG-1 over the past two months, One series within two days and watching war films Kokoda: 39th Battalion being the most recent.

These are the anime I've seen to make it easier:

Spirited Away
Spriggan
Tales From Earthsea
Tekkaman/Teknoman Blade
Castle In the Sky
Kiki's Delivery Service
Evangelion Series and films
GITS films and TV series
Gundam Wing, Seed, Destiny, 00
Most of Ergo Proxy
Princess Mononoke
Pom Poko
New Dominion Tank Police
Dominion Tank Police
AD Police Files
Bubblegum Crisis 2032
Bubblegum Crash 2034
Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040
Grave of the Fireflies
Detonator Orgun (A terrible anime which is Tekkaman Blade compressed into three episodes)
Pani Poni Dash series
Nausicaa
Both series of Full Metal Panic! and spin-off FFumoffu
Jinki Extend
Vexille.
I'm sure there are one or more I've forgotten.

Funny story regarding Neon Genesis Evangelion, on of the boys in my old university watched the entire series and the films in one day with his cousin. At the end his cousin was running around believing the world was coming to an end.
