OMGWTFBBQ I JUST FINISHED READING THE WATCHMEN

Postby Anberlin89 » 30 Dec 2009, 19:23

And totally felt the need to make a topic about it
Damn, that was a good one. Very dark and complex. I don't even read graphic novels frequently. I plan to rent the movie soon...hopefully it's not a letdown.

So, fellow forum-goers, any graphic novel recommendations?

More Alan Moore, as well... Persepolis, Blade of the Immortal. Whatever happened to the Caped Crusader?, Arkham Asylum... Tank Girl... Frank Miller Dark Knight...

I like "Waking Dead", as a good zombie series... Batman's "The Long Halloween", Alan Moore's "V For Vendetta"...

I've been reading Marvel stuff mostly so I've been lacking on graphic novels.

Scud: The Disposable Assassin. I mean how can you not like a Satan Worshipping, Voodoo Practicing, Zombie-gang leader version of Ben Franklin as a main villain?

As long as you don't mind the notion that a giant squid would not work as a climax for a movie in the third millennium, it's a great movie.

Get the Director's cut though, that includes Hollis Mason's most awesome scene ever.

And if you don't mind that the master scheme is taken directly from an episode of The Outer Limits.

Annoyingly I can't seem to find the directors cut over here on anything other than blu-ray. Kind of annoying. It's still a damn good movie though.

Comics wise, I second the suggestions for Sandman and Walking Dead.

Sandman, Walking Dead, Batman: The Long Halloween and Batman: The Killing Joke.

I don't have that many graphic novels, but these I have, and love.

Awwwww, and I had respect for you before you went and posted this!

Go read The Filth by Grant Morrison, Anberlin89. It's totally straightforward and not at all disturbing.

Sandman, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, there's this other one that I can't remember the name of but it's by Will Eisner and it's about Fagan the Jew from Oliver Twist.

If you're willing to read manga, I recommend anything by Naoki Urusawa, particularly 20th Century Boys because I feel like I'm the only one who's ever read that.

And, while it's technically a webcomic, I have the print version so it's technically a graphic novel: Bite Me!.

I don't have any recommendations, as Watchmen is the only graphic novel I've ever read, but I'm posting because I concur with the aforementioned "awesomesauce" rating that my fellow forum-goers have imparted to it.

Great book, couldn't put it down until I finished it.
Just call me Dylan. It's easier to pronounce.

V for Vendetta by Alan Moore
Sandman by Neil Gaiman (Seriously - get the Absolute editions if you can, especially of the "Ramadan" issue)
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Alan Moore
Maus by Art Spiegleman
Hellblazer by Mike Carey and others
Lucifer by Mike Carey - arguably a Sandman spinoff, but handled with incredible aplomb
Death: The High Cost of Living by Neil Gaiman (Another Sandman companion)
Stardust by Neil Gaiman
The Discworld Graphic Novels if you're a Pratchett fan, the art is really great.
