I didn't get to watch this until last night, but it gave me a really good laugh.

I really like how it was shot and how Matt's baby face was indirectly poked fun at, but still came back to win. Funny funny stuff. Good job.

Looking forward to the LRRcast to hear how long it took Paul and Jer to grow those sacrificial beards.

I like to think that Paul really *can* control the speed of his beard growing. If they wanted to do a Warriors of Darkness video, they'd give him a day warning and the next morning - BAM! - full face of beard!
Though it was weird at first, I've come to love the beardless Paul.

I thought this vid was great, though I agree with the general consensus that a revisit of the Slacking for Gold team would be nice. Perhaps we could see how they are doing now? Maybe moved on to Figure Curling or something else?

PS. Good to be back in the forums! Been AWOL for far too long!

Awesome video guys. Totally didn't expect Matt to win the beard contest. It seems similar in theory to Slacking for Gold, insofar as they're both unlikely Olympic competitions, but that's where the similarities end, and both videos become funny in their own, unique way.

It was a little unexpected to see Morgan as the lead reporter for A9, but I suppose it makes the most sense, as everybody else who is a known reporter is already in the video elsewhere.

Also, I'd be interested to know if Paul is planning to return to the goatee, or if he grew the beard only for this video. I'd prefer the former, if only to see a return of the Warriors of Darkness.

There is a precident for Morgan in Action9, as Chip Musgrave was in the very first A9 video, back in the day.

Yeah, I remember him. I suppose it was unexpected because it was usually you or Matt as the main reporter. Chip must have gotten a promotion.

Great video! I especially loved the Garibaldi technique.

By the way, the name "Hans Egan" does deserve all the comments it's gotten here and on the escapist, but the anthem is not the only thing you got right.

Matt has got the whole blond-hair-blue-eyes thing down, and that is, indeed, appropriately in accordance with the stereotype of us Finns.

Actually, the name works OK for a Finnish character, as long as one considers Matt's character a member of the Swedish-speaking minority ("Finlandssvenskar", kind of hard to translate).

Granted, naming the character something like Grönblom or Åkerman would have been more true to the stereotype, but Hans Egan works for me at least.

His family could have immigrated before he was born or something.

---

From what I've heard in podcasts, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for Jer to grow that beard that fast.

The question I have is Matt's character's beard. In the reality of the video, is it supposed to be real or fake?

See now I was wondering about that. Was it supposed to be fake? Cos he even mentions that its fake in the video but is he supposed to be serious when he says that?

That was actually the one issue I had with this script, and I didn't realize I had it until after I saw the final cut and realized we didn't address it.

We probabkly should have thrown a line in early about the sport's checkered past of doping, or cheating.

realistically, it's probably supposed to be a fake beard that he threw on when no one was looking, but it wors as him suddenly just insta-groing it too.

interpret it how ou like, whatever you think is funnier.

I thought this was hilarious from beginning to end. I did call that Matt would end up winning from out of nowhere, but somehow didn't figure out that it would have been a heck of a lot easier to just keep trimming the beards back to smooth rather than trying to keep continuity going back to film multiple times.

Keep up the great work!

I don't know, when the camera cuts to you/Hans, it seems to be catching the very end of a spontaneous growth that even surprised your character, from the look on his face. Like he was like, "C'mon...C'mon, grow...WHOA! Holy shit!"

He's on an Olympic Beard Growing Team and has made it to the finals of Beard Growing. Why would it suprise him that he managed to grow a beard?

Me too. I half expected the stinger to be Paul and Jer chasing Matt with his fake beard partially removed and dangling from one side.

Not so much surprise that he managed to grow a beard, just surprise that he managed to grow a full, Grizzly Adams beard in less than a second.

that was a good video. and i actually liked how matt kinda mocked the beard which was completely not fake.

the rest of the video was pretty hilarous.

Would have liked Matt to refer to the beard as "luscious, completely natural and not at all fake". :)

can we just talk about cross country figure curling for a second, cause the brilliance of the incompatibility makes me hilarity all over myself.

I've actually got some pretty epic beardage going right now which I've been planning on cutting, So I may well make my own video using the alchemical techniques espoused in this vid.

Cross Country Figure Curling? So you skate on a frozen river and every time you launch a stone, you must complete a triple axle-triple salchow combination?
