When I knit in the round, I never feel like I'm getting anywhere... I'm currently making a scarf out of a fun yarn that makes it all loopy when its knitted. I'll post a picture when I'm finished!

When you say knitting steel, I think chainmail work.

correct...though, use something like 30 swg or so wire ya'll could get away with normal knitting...

Also I cast on for a hat because I need more hats, but I think my circular needle is too long, I have to stretch the darn thing to get it to reach end to end. I don't know if I should just break down and buy a set of double pointed needles... :/ Also I dislike doing anything in the round, always feels like I'm not doing it right somehow, or my rows won't line up or something.

I personally really like knitting in the round. You end up with a lot less seems to sew up, and it's kinda cool to watch a hat or glove emerge fully formed from your needles. I personally always use double points for my knitting in the round and find them great for the task, though I admit this particular bias comes directly from my mother.

I love knitting in the round, so much less sewing up to do. Also a big fan of double pointed needles for small things like socks, circular needles are good for larger objects in the round or knit flat.

Rikadyn, I wondered after I replied if you meant chainmail, viking knit wire was another possibility. I've taught myself a bit of both, they're fun but hard on the hands! Large pieces of mail are more fun than a slinky.

SilentBobCDN, the scarf is looking awesome! I would probably stab myself with the needles if I had to do a scarf's worth of 1x1 ribbing, so kudos to you. My big scarf project was an entrelac scarf made out of Noro Kureyon...I refer to it as "the scarf that ate Calgary". It was 9.5 feet long after blocking, and has probably grown a bit since then. I lurve it. (for anyone wondering, entrelac is the technique korri used to make the squee-able baby blanket she posted. Looks like basketweave)

The scarf is finished!... finally.



I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, the length of it is between 6 and 7 feet, and the main bit of it is decently straight, with the beginning and end flared out a little bit. Got lots of complements on it when I brought it with me to work today.

If I remember right, this scarf is done in 1x1 ribbing, so if you don't use a cast on/bind off that duplicates the ribbing the edges will flare. Not that it matters, because you have a kick-ass scarf!

Very nice work, and good choice on the yarn colorways! As much as I like Noro yarns, some of the color combinations are a bit much (although this pattern is a good choice for balancing the colors).

So...what's next on the needles?

A friend of mine got a doctor who jacket (www.abbyshot.com). I could make him a doctor who scarf, but it wouldn't fit with the jacket...

I've been working for the last week on a Doctor Who scarf. My hands are about to fall off, but in just a few days of frantic knitting I've managed to finish 3/4 of it. I heartily recommend it! Garter stitch works up so fast, and it's very satisfying, and I could strangle a horse from 30 feet away with the thing.

I'm going to be wearing it to PAX, I think. :B
