2010 NHL Playoffs

Postby goat » 11 Apr 2010, 16:53

It's that time of the year again.

East

#1 Washington Capitals vs. #8 Montreal Canadiens
#2 New Jersey Devils vs. #7 Philadelphia Flyers
#3 Buffalo Sabres vs. #6 Boston Bruins
#4 Pittsburgh Penguins vs. #5 Ottawa Senators

West

#1 San Jose Sharks vs. #8 Colorado Avalanche
#2 Chicago Blackhawks vs. #7 Nashville Predators
#3 Vancouver Canucks vs. #6 Los Angeles Kings
#4 Phoenix Coyotes vs. #5 Detroit Red Wings

Predictions?

I like Chicago and the Caps in the final, but as always I'm pulling for the Wings.

I'm contractually obligated to go for the Habs. After them, the Pens are usually the default for this area.

EAST

Caps in 4
Caps are going to sweep the Habs hard and fast, and probably march to the final

Devils in 5
The Devils are the superior team, no doubt about it, but the Flyers will make them pay at least once after losing the first few.

Sabres in 5
The Bruins, as much as I like them, have been a wreck for long stretches of the season. With Rask in his first playoff series and Savard out for the season, I'd expect the Sabres to have smooth sailing, even with Tim Conolly on the fritz.

Pens in 5
I originally said 6, but I'm not as familiar with the Senators to say how much of a chance they stand against the defending champions. The Penguins have the right stuff to get through this round, but if all the top seeds win, they'll face the Caps next in what is going to be the biggest series outside of the Final itself.

WEST

Sharks in 5
The Avs have fallen far since their early jump to the front of the pack 6 months ago. If Craig Anderson can get his shit together, they might stand a chance, but if things stay the way they are, the Avs won't get more than a game out of San Jose.

Hawks in 6
The Hawks are great this year, but so are the Predators. The Hawks routinely play top caliber hockey, but when Nashville wants to they can be tough as hell, and Pekka Rinne has been nearly unstoppable in net. This is gonna be a rough battle.

Canucks in 4
The Kings have a had a stellar season, but Quick hasn't been up to snuff the last few weeks. After starting over 60 games this season, he's pooped. Look for the Canucks to walk all over this one, unless Quick gets his head back into the game.

Detroit in 6
Bryzgalov is going to be one hard cookie to crumble, but Detroit has the experience on their side, and, for once, nearly all of the Red Wings are healthy and good to go.

I love playoff season.

East

Capitals in 5
Devils in 6
Sabres in 7
Senators in 7 (wooo go Sens!)

West

Sharks in 6
Blackhawks in 5
Canucks in 6
Coyotes in 6

I may be a fan, but I'm predicting a Vancouver-Washington cup final.

I am unfortunatley a Habs fan so the only thing I have to look forward to this year is shaving my payoff beard early.

I'd love to see a Luongo vs Miler Olympic rematch in the finals.

Yeah, My Flames jersey has been hung up this year. Didn't even break it out. If the boys were a little more focused on the game and not getting into fights/picking up skeezy women at the back alley - maybe I'd bring it out.

The question is how many goals they'll give Miller to work with.

Well, typically they start a goalie off with just watching one goal, but I think Miller could cover two of them if they were side by side.

For an English person who gains his knowledge from NHL 2003 (Mighty Ducks ftw), what are these 'x in 5' referring to? Number of matches?

Yeah, the number is the predicted number of games it will take for the winning team to get 4 wins.

Even though I don't really follow hockey, being from where I am I'm obligated to support the team. So, without further ado,
GO SHARKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they are the only good team in the bay area.

I tuned in about 1 minute before the goal. I don't really like the Habs, but man it's good to see Washington get beat. I'll laugh if the Habs can win the series and shut up all the pundits praising the Caps (myself included).
