Oh the Horrors!
So a new 'Nightmare on Elm Street' is out and I'm stoked to see it even though it'll likley suck much balls. So that got me thinking about horror movies in general and how people view them so I thought this might be a cool thing to talk about.
Do you like them? Why? Favorites? Favorite kills?
I've always been partial to 'Friday the 13th Part VII'. I love the makeup job on Jason and Kane Hodder was excellent in the "role".

Re: Oh the Horrors!
I believe if at any point in the movie one of the lead actresses (or the lead actress) gets in a bathtub, something's going to happen.
But enough about cliches. I tend to view the horror genre with skepticism. I don't see how going somewhere to get scared is fun or interesting.

That actually happens in the original. Back before that was cliché.

I honestly couldn't tell you why, but I love horror films and games.

I wonder how many explosions and helicopters will be in this movie.

That would be WAY to clever and meta, even for a Michael Bay production... but pretty freakin hilarious if it ever happened.

Because I want to write scripts and somehow I got stuck with writing for a soap. Come Halloween I'd kill off the entire cast using Jason Vorhees. because I hate soaps.

Re: Oh the Horrors!
I don't like Horror movies or even haunted houses because for some reason I get scared very easily. This leads to really bad nightmares and many sleepless nights. For example after I saw Signs (yes I know, not very scary at all) I had to sleep with all my closet doors and windows shut. Did I mention I was in high school at the time?
Yeah, I'm a wuss, but I've always been scared of stuff. Even now, if I think about people breaking into my apartment at night, it scares the shit out of me and I end up awake all night with every little sound making me jump...
So no horror movies for me....

Some films that gave me hope for the horror genre were 'Drag Me to Gell' and 'Let the Right One In'.

It was in no way a good movie, but it was AWESOME! The problem I have with "vs" movies in general is that the movie thinks we care about the humans. I watch Freddy vs Jason to see dumb teens get slaughtered, not to see the teens triumph over evil.
It's been awhile since I've seen a good horror movie, these days it's all slasher flicks and torture porn.

This might surprise you, but I disagree.
And since I have no original thoughts, here's Yahtzee's thoughts on Freddy vs Jason:

Re: Oh the Horrors!
On a whole, the Horror genre bores me. Only certain types interest me. Zombie movies, for one. God I love Zombie movies! But, I'm not sure I could pick a favorite. There are so many, with so many variations.
Another favorite is possession/exorcism films. The Exorcism of Emily Rose was particularly good. But, don't forget the Exorcist. Classic.

You're obvisouly entitled to your opinion and all but I fail to see how Yahtzee review agrees with your disagreement... his review is mostly positive and only really dings it for a few dumb scenes and canon stuff that only a hardcore NOES or Friday fan would pick up on.

Ummm....
When did I say that Yahtzee agreed with me?

There's two line breaks between those statements.

Re: Oh the Horrors!
ok, that doesn't make them any less related in how you presented them.
I disagree.
I have no original thoughts on the matter, so here's yahtzee's review.
If you had wanted to differentiate your opinion from Yahtzee's you should have made that more clear - as, A) persenting them consecutively within a post naturally links them as a stream of thought, and B) because you referenced your own thoughts in the line on which you presented Yahtzee's review, making the link between yahtzee's review and your thoughts explicit.
as a vehicle for the opinion you are now claiming to hold, the structure of your original post was unconventional insofar as the typical reader would understand it. However, it was conventional for a post in which someone makes a claim, and then posts a review supporting their claim. The misunderstanding is perfectly reasonable.

I neither wanted to differentiate nor link. I wanted to present.

Re: Oh the Horrors!
I remember during the summer of 03 I decided that I would see every Nightmare on Elm st and every Friday the 13th sequentially. There were some gaps, but I did see them all within the timespan of 2ish weeks.
From what I remember:
Nightmare on Elm st 1: Great, and managed to pull off a serious horror theme.
2: UGH, JUST UGH.
3: Awesome, and had a great sense of humor, also I AM THE WIZARDMASTER!
4: Can't remember too much, but it was kinda meh.
5: Also meh but kinda nasty beginning with how freddy was conceived. But it did have a pretty good kill (the comic hero one).
6: Horrendously stupid, but did have some amusing nintendo references.
New Nightmare: Seemed like a rather good reboot at first but the last half just sucked.
Friday the 13th
1 & 2: Good although looking kinda dated and the pacing was a bit slow, but still good nonetheless
3: Jason gets his goalie mask! Also ARROW'D
4 & 5: Both kinda generic, but alright. I think these ones had lots of jason busting through doors with ease.. sweet
6: YES this is my favorite of the series. Jason gets resurrected by a lightning bolt and is superpowered. He makes walls explode by walking though them and also ALICE COOPER soundtrack! This was so good and oh so 80's awesome.
7 & 8: Don't remember too much, but felt like a letdown after the sheer amount of awesome that was 6
Jason Goes to Hell: UGH about as stupid as Nightmare on elm st 6.
Jason X: HELL YES. Didn't take itself seriously and also Jason in SPACE. I have trouble deciding between 6 and this for best.
Freddie vs Jason: Very good, even though it does seem to re-explain everything (I take it to introduce it to people who never watched any of the films) this was good fun.

Funny enough, I am not shaken by most horror flicks, however signs bothered me because of the aliens walking by the window all creepy like.
Walk in like DeNiro, and leave like Brando.

While the story and the acting were bad and it doesn't fit in the canon anymore I do feel it has a couple of good bits.
The scene where Freddy comes out of Jesse's body is still freaky as all hell (except the eye in the mouth thing) and the kill afterwards is one of his best blade kills. Also the pool party scene is pretty awesome despite the fact that it makes no sense at all...
