LoadingReadyRun Origins

Postby Lord Chrusher » 20 Nov 2006, 00:48

How did this all get started? How did people meet one another? How did they get drawn into doing a video a week?

I know that many of the LRR crew went to high school together (I have yearbook pictures to prove it!). I would like to create a History of LoadingReadyRun page in the wiki. Also how personal do can the wiki entries be?

Or better yet, illustrate it through a video!

Doesn't it say on the "about us" page? And Paul and Graham have definitely talked about it on the early podcasts.

They went to highschool together, did they not? And then were like "hey, it would be cool to put videos on the web" and then they forgot about it. And then they remembered it, and they did it.

Tell me if I'm missing anything. Or, you know, wrong. This is strictly by memory, folks.

Otherwise, spot on.

There already was a video about this, like three years ago.

A funnier story is the one about how Graham and Kathleen met.
"I swear it," said the other mother. "I swear it on my own mother's grave."

"Does she have a grave?" asked Coraline.

"Oh yes," said the other mother. "I put her in there myself. And when I found her trying to crawl out, I put her back."

Oh yeah? Well, I wasn't here three years ago. I've been here little over a year.

It's true, and being as the video isn't on the site anymore, it's not really reasonable to assume people know about it.
Also, it was less about how we got started and more about how we finish.

I had been meaning to mention this idea i had last week while thinking aboutyour new layout. You have the random video area, and it got me thinking about some of your season one footage, and i remember when u first took it off of the website. :( my thought was you could have a season one video 'of the week' or day or w/e and upload just that one video, because i know you dont have season one up due to lack of bandwidth or something? so i thought it would enable newer viwered to watch the originals,.... What do you think about it.

Kathleen and I met Graham at a CUP (That's Canada University Press to you noobs) conference in Edmonton a few weeks after LRR started. Kathleen and Graham hit it off right away, and Graham was thinking "OMG Love", and Kathleen was thinking "OMG, I should set this guy up with Dana". For you see, at the time Kathleen had just gotten engaged to someone else...she just wasn't wearing the ring because it was too big and had not yet been resized.

Anyway, our friend Jen, who lives in Edmonton met up with Kathleen, and Graham, who had tagged along. Jen asked Kathleen how her finace was...and apparently Graham was utterly crushed. He got over it fairly wuickly, and went on to follow some other hot chick, who turned out to be married. Ah, yes, those were some good times.

Well, sounds pretty conclusive. I bet there is no more to that story, whatsoever.

Let's keep in mind that although the LRR crew knows many of the people who post here, there are more people that they don't know. Us fans may feel like we know the crew of LRR because of all the exposure we've had to them in the videos, but we really don't know them, and they're entitled to have personal lives that we don't know stuff about.

If neither Graham nor Kathleen posts about how they met, is it really an appropriate topic for this board?

Thanks Melendwyr, but Dana is my RL bestest friend, and she has a pretty good handle on what I am comfortable having posted on the internet. She's leaving a bunch of stuff out of that story actually. Suffice to say, a couple years later, Kathleen and Graham are going out, we'll leave it that.

For god sake Dana, you say this every time.

At that point I had so little invested in this person I'd just met that it really wasn't that big of a deal. I hadn't even bought her a drink yet.

The other girl that Kathleen was talking about is a good story too. My managing editor thought I was all sad so he told me to try for the photo editor of another paper because she was "looking".
I walked over to her, dudes were already buying her drinks, so I asked her is she wanted to go dance.
We walked to the dance floor, with me two steps behind her. Before I got there, my managing editor stuck his arm out to stop me, and said "I've just been informed. She's married."

So, difference being, she had taken her ring off to go cruising. Kathleen was just forgetful.

Kathleen wasn't actually thinking of setting me up with Dana right away. It was more, "Oh no, now I feel bad because he thought I was single... um... Dana?" It didn't pan out.

I would argue that if your managing editor (was it Jeb at the time?), Dana and Jenn all thought you looked sad, I bet you were a little sad.

Christ.
Jeb was drunk and thought I'd been led on by some cruising slut, and Dana didn't see me at the time.

I was terribly surprised.

Well then, tell on. This Graleen stuff is weirdly fascinating. (Or Kathham?)

Graleen is way cooler sounding, but combined nouns are kind of lame.
